I am doing video editing and audio recording with my XP pro system. I have done a number of optimizations to get things running as smoothly as possible but I am kind of confused about the performance options in XP.

Processor Scheduling - Programs or Background services?
Memory Usage - Programs or system cache?
Virtual Memory - Custom/Fixed? System managed? or No Page File?

I have read in a few different places that tell me to use one option or another, but I don't really understand why? Running many RAM intensive audio and video apps, what settings would you recommend and more importantly, why?

thanks!

SPECS:
XP Pro
2.66ghz CoreDuo
4gb DDR 800
Line 6 Toneport UX2 Audio device

Most interfaces especially those that use ASIO drivers run as background services. So when recording use background services. Memory Usage keep to "programs" Your PC specs are really good so you got that going. The main thing is your startup services. Use the method below to properly knock your current list running down.

Not sure if you've seen it before but this is my go to article that I refer people to.
