I see Dell are shipping with this version of XP. Anybody know if it's any different to XP home build with service pack 2?

I could be totally wrong, but I seem to recall that some software or hardware driver for something I have was incompatable with or unavailable for it, when I was shopping for a computer a month or 2 ago. Proceed cautiously.

Shit now what am I gonna do? Hmmm. I figured that wa sthe perfect loophole to avoid vista AND installing an old XP.

Probably much to the hatred of the pirate haters on the board, it's situations like this where I don't think it's a bad thing at all to just download a copy of XP Pro and use it. You'd basically be paying for an XP that you don't want and might not be able to use, so why not get a version that you can use? Microsoft still gets their money and you don't have to deal with what is essentially an aggressive (and failing) marketing strategy. *Prepares for neg. rep*

Just put it in your CD drive and start your PC.

lol @ anonymous neg. rep "there's a black dong in your eye, remove it plz"
Are you fucking kidding? Try being more original!

Also, if you have the XP Pro CD already, why worry? Like legion said, it's just a matter of putting it in your CD drive and booting from the CD!

I have Media XP
It works well for me, although I havent been able to record with it as I can only use the soundcard that comes with my computer.
Im sure that has nothing to do with Media XP though.

I have Media Center XP on my computer and have not noticed any issues so far(2+ years). Granted, I am not too hardcore into mixing/mastering but nothing has caused any problems yet. I use a M-Audio usb soundcard to record into and record using Acid. Just my 2 cents

I had Media Center in my notebook, and it was ok for what it's suppose to do, but I had a hard time recording though. At the time, no m-audio devices support mce. Which was few months ago. I believe they still don't support mce So I couldn't connect my 410. Installed XP pro and works fine.

Well, went and looked at M-Audio's site, and still no available downloads for any USB, Firewire, sound cards, keyboards, or anything at all supports mce.

Mixing is a dream on my Media centre XP.
I can manage up to around 60 tracks with loads of plug-ins before it starts to go gammy.
I do have 2 gig ram, Pentium 4HT and 400Gig harddrive though.

I have to disagree with this quote mindset, I had a 410 a year ago and it worked fine with my XPMC  I have ran digi, m-audio and presonus interfaces with no issues at all.

If you own Vista you can legally use an older version of windows. (XP or 98SE).
Same thing with Office 2007. You can legally downgrade to office 2003 or 2000

Load xp media edition. It is fine and will work well for you. Im a registered Microsoft OEM and have used all the different versions of windows xp and the difference between the three will not affect recording. I even have vista working on a few of my pc's and it took just a little tweaking to get all my older software and hardware running on it.

How you do that? I can't download drivers for mce from m-audio. 3rd party drivers? My mce was "preloaded" from Toshiba, with a restore disc.

hmm I would try it myself now, but I destroyed mce & preloaded win xp pro lol. Good info to know tho.
