Well, maybe foolishly, I upgraded to windows xp. I was running ME on a 1.7 p4, using a delta 66/omni setup with cakewalk pro audio. everything was peachy keen. before upgrading, i downloaded the xp driver from m-audio and installed it, thinking xp would recognize it during the upgrade. but NO. I tried taking the soundcard out, starting and shutting down, then reinstalling, but all to no avail. Anybody else upgraded to xp with a delta 66. Any and all advice welcome!!!!

1st you can't install the XP driver and then update to XP...

2nd it probably wasn't wise to update to XP from ME... a clean install would have been much better...

no XP doesn't install the drivers for the Delta 66... you gotta do that... have then unzipped somewhere and go into the control panel, into system, and open the device manager.

now under sound devices, there will probably be one with a yellow ! by it that just says multimedia controler or something... thats your 66... open it up and click on reinstall driver, and choose the option I will choose the driver to install... browse to where u have the driver unzipped to and pick the delta66 from the list of devices and install

XP sucks. Microsoft sucks, and Bill Gates is a facist power-monger.

Xp is much better than me and 98 and slightly better than 2000pro. i was using xppro but i hate the error reporting function kicking me out of a program. but xp is faster than any os, and for audio so far its the best too(to me) under Xp with my delta 1010, had a 2ms latency, under 2000 with the same settings its at 10-16ms..

do a fresh install of XP. what version of xp do you have? i used XPPro, i'll be going back to XPPro one my new daw comes in.

c9,

you can turn that error reporting off... one of the first things I do anytime I install XP

i know, you can turn it off, i did but it still messes things up.

jdechant, you described the exact process i used once i found out xp didn't know about my soundcard. First, i uninstalled the m-audio stuff, and then tried to install the new sp driver for the delta 66 i got from the website. I beginning to think somethings amiss here, so I guess i'll have to break down and call gateway support. I have uninstalled the delta drivers, physically removed the card, then replaced it, and then tried to install the new driver, all without success. plug n play my a$$. Well, thanks for your help!

I don't think this is any different than Windows 2000 except you get a message box telling you the app died.

JimC,

Try putting your card in another pci slot, power up your machine, then see what happens. I had similar problems with my card. Now, before I reformat with XP, I remove the card. For some reason, I couldn't get XP to recognize new hardware when I reformat with the card in place. I'm pretty sure there is a better way, but this way works for me. Hope this helps.

my 1010 wouldn't work at first, my computer wouldn't even post, after i changed the pci slot a few times it worked fine...so that may be your reason too, but you should do a clean install..

Man that is some pretty low self esteem man.

xp performs the best on my athlonXP 1600(soon to be a 2000+ then a 4gigi hammer :)
my system acts funny under 2000 and lets not even talk about 98 and ME.
most of my mew Pc shipped today.. so i'll have it this week and i'll be back with XPPro...seeing how it is the BEST os around..

go to m-audio and dl the m-audio driver uninstaller...make sure ur old drivers are completely removed before u install the new ones

I had a similar problem. I installed the drivers and that was fine. Butthen it kept saying something to the effect that they were old driver. Im running logic on 98 since i dont think logic works on XP. How do i fix this in the fuure. The XP drivers were the only ones i had installed apart from the ones on the CD. Next time should i skip intalling the drivers on the CD?

What good is all of that if it doesn't work and/or play well with most manufacturers' audio cards or drivers. I've already installed one device (Delta 1010lt Audio Card) that XP doesn't recognize as having passed their "logo testing" - whatever the hell that crap is all about.

I've also installed one multitrack recording software program (N-tracks) that flat-out doesn't work with XP, although it rather suspiciously worked fine on my Win '98 system. Gee. And I installed another software package (Cool Edit Pro), that makes my operating system shaky and unstable.

The fine folks at Compaq have reassured me that it isn't Bill Gates' fault, and that all this goes to show that it's the fault of these bad audio companies making bad stuff that doesn't comply to Windows' standards.

I say it is Bill Gates' fault for contriving such an arrogant system that refuses to work and play with other people's peripherals and software programs. I think it's just more of Windows trying to find more ways to take over the damn planet.

chessrock,

That driver signing doesn't mean shit... it just basically means that the sound card companies don't want to pay microsoft to "digitally sign" their drivers... or however it works...

I don't know if N-track is supposed to run on XP, but from what I hear, N-track is pretty unstable on any OS...

I run cool edit pro 1.2a on my XP system sometimes and it runs perfectly... it does so for many many other peeps too... check out the syntrillium forums... I don't know if you upgraded from 98 to XP and didn't do a fresh install or what but sounds like you either didn't install XP correctly or something messed up during the install...

i know ppl that use CEP 1.2 under XpPro with no problems also. all my software works fine and my delta work BEST under XPPro. n-track... i don't use it so i cna't say if it works or not, but i know its a unstable program over all. these are the main programs i use and they all work perfect

Wavelab 4
Nuendo 1.52
Cubase Vst32 5.1
T-Racks 24
Reason 1.1
and to may plugins to count..

I'm not saying that Cooledit doesn't work on my system, because it does, and it actually works very well, if I might add.

The problem is that Cooledit (or at least my version of it) makes XP unstable. Right after I installed it, I started getting all these error messages every time I shut my computer off (some sort of blue screen that warns you that your operating system is unstable).

And although the "logo testing" thing can probably be ignored, I know that blue screen isn't something you're supposed to mess with.

I'm running XP Pro and EVERYTHING I had in Win ME works beautifully under Win XP Pro, not a single problem with drivers or software installs or stuff not working. This is the most stable os I've ever used.

this is my system:

Win XP Pro
Pentium III 1Ghz
384 MB RAM
Cubase VST 5.1
Wavelab 3
Cool Edit Pro
MOTU 2408
LOTS of plugins.
