XP Issues

I have a strange issue with XP. When I was running 98SE, my audio recording was fine. When I installed XP, I started getting some strange pops in my audio tracks. This problem persists even after I downloaded and installed my sound card's XP update. Is this happening because of all those services running in the background that I don't need, or is it my card just not liking the OS.


My PC:
amd athlon 900
352 mg ram
sblive (I am too poor for a better card)

Yes. Go to www.prorec.com and read the article about optimizing a Windows 2000 computer for use with audio. I believe all of the information there also applies to Windows XP.
