Remixing this today - focused on mainly on the vocals, but also some eq and redid the lead. Older tune some of you will recognize. With the snowstorm we had on Thursday it's a fitting Xmas in April. Any mix feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Edit - Updated agian with latest mix April 12th

Lovely mix of a brilliant song - it demonstrates your ability with genuine affection and melody without sentimentalism.
David did a grand job with the additions - esp. the tubular bells.
I have to admit that the bass in the inro has a note that bothers me - it fits in the key/chord sense but doesn't quite anchor the bass phrase of melody.
It's excellent to hear this with the one & only PI underpinning the rhythm - a definite extra dimension added.
That this hasn't been released & a hit each of the last three Xmases is beyond my reckoning.

Mix sounds fine to me, vox sound good dry like that, everything seems in the right order on my sys.

Nice tune.

Thanks for confirming it - yeah that note is sharp. I actually got Mike to redo the bass for this a few months ago because of this note. I put it aside and never looked at it but it resulted in the same dissonance. I'm going to try and comp a different line or note in there.

I don't know Gerry, it must be me - still sounds a little fudged.
I LOVE the rest of it but coming as it does so soon & so prominently it puts me off.
How about muting the bass for the 1st 4 bars?
Alternatly you could mute the note & o/d a low tubular bell ringing the right one.

Right you are - on headphones it sounds so so but on the truck this morning it sounds out of tune still. To make matters worse they ran out of milk at Starbucks this morning then the elevator was shut off in the parkade.
Let me work on this some more and see what else I can find for the intro. Might be a tad hot too. Single notes maybe....we'll see....

Great job. Vox seems a little lacking in the high end to me. Great tune

Thanks Elton...agreed...may be caused by the proximity effect of the mic. This was recorded flat eq on the mixer, and I actually bumped up the 3000 range when mixing this to brighten it up without adding sibilence.

Good jobs, and cool song about Christmas. Only 8 months to go! It'll be here fast lol...

Sounded pretty nice.

I also think the vocals are just a bit cloudy. Instead of a boost, you might want to try a gentle cut somewhere maybe 800hz-1000hz.

Also thought the bass had boomy frequency.

Could probably compress the vocal harder. The level is a bit inconsistent.

well done sir. Great mix you have there!!!! I still think the vox could come up. And the first phrase sounds a little muddy to me, but then after that its great. Are you working in a DAW? Can u automate an eq or burn it into the file?

Sounds good, Gerry! In the last mix, I think the vocals are a tad bit too loud in the mix. The music is really well done, and shouldn't be covered so much by the vocals, IMO. I'd lower the vocals a db or two and see if that shed a bit more light on the music. Just my opinion, though.

Man, this brings back memories... :) Good times those were, Gerry. :D Cheers!

Gerry,
A terrific mix. the simplified/modified bass in the intro actually allows the David K stuff to shine through a bit & set the tone. Mike's excellent playing & runs get plenty of exposure in the rest of the song (I'd still love just a little peak at 3khz to give it a little more definition).
GREAT song.

Not too bad. Vocals way too dry and out front to me. Sounds very disjointed like that. The rest seems pretty good. Just get those vocals in the mix and not ten feet in front of it.

I wonder if you got the latest link? There's quite a lot of plate reverb on the last version and the vocals are pulled back quite a bit. I'm going to update all the links with the latest version just in case....
These multiple versions are a pain... I wish I could get 320MP3's on Soundclick for free...

it just sounds wrong...I cant be listening to xmas songs in April!

the mix sounds great to me, I listened to the last mix Gerry...all the components are there for this type of tune, and the whole thing was well played and arranged

it could be a xmas hit!
and wouldnt sound out of place on a SEARs commercial :D
