Here goes. I am going to record live drums, I am the drummer as well as the engineer [ I use the term loosley ]. I want to run
my mics into rack mounted compression. [ I'm looking at the DBX
266XL on a budget ]. Is this an acceptable way to go? My tascam 788 has all 1/4 inch inputs and came with 2 xlr to 1/4TRS adapters. I'm thinking the DBX model would be good because
it has XLR ins and outs as well as TRS ins and outs. I have a nano compressor and was looking at the ALesis 3630 but I'm trying to avoid getting into an adapter nightmare and having to own a
million different mic cables and adapters [ Make that 2 million
I already own a million ] . The TRS adapter does not work in the Alesis nano compressor so if I went with Alesis would I need to
buy mic cables that are XLR to 1/4 inch TS ?

Thanks

TRS are basically for inserts; you can go in AND out just through the channel insert jack on your board. Most of your 'prosumer' type rack gear can either go straight 1/4", XLR, OR TRS depending.

So a 266 would give you stereo capability with the jacks you have, theoretically.
