So, I need an XLR (female) ---> 1/4" plug (male) adapter to insert an XLR ended mic into a Tascam M-06 mixer, . .What are these adapters called . . are they stereo or mono 1/4" plugs.. . and can I pick these adapters up at radio (snack) shack?

Also, I need a XLR (male) adapter ----> a 1/4" (female) plug input to insert a 1/4" ended mic into an XLR input. . . would the 1/4" plug be stereo or mono?

Sorry for the stupid question, . .I probably should know this by now. . . I just don't want to ask for the wrong adapters. . Thanks guys

Yes the first one you need is a 274-016c It is a 1/4 inch male to xlr female and has the matching transformer built in. I suggest you get that instead of just a adaptor so you can keep the benefits of low impedence on your mic cable. That is an old number but may still be good. And here is a pic

Also the other adaptor you need is number 274-017. It also has the transformer.
Now these may be old numbers also. If they do not have these you can get them from most of the catalog music supply places like American music supply.

Yep! You were right on man! Those numbers were still good . .Thanks for the help!

Wow, those suckers were expensive, . 15 bucks each! I'm assuming that's because they are the ones with transformers to convert the unbalanced 1/4 mic signal to a balanced XLR input. . . and vise a versa.

So, if you can, . . briefly explained to me when you might use a regular XLR to 1/4" adapters without transformers. . .are regular adapters, only for mixing boards that have (balanced) 1/4" inputs , . . .?
