There was a mint UM70 on harmony central for $500. I was the second person to contact him so I got beat out. Oh well. Seemed like a really good deal though.

Hi there

Isn't the UM70 just the capsule (and basket) that fits onto a number of Gefell bodies? I think this is the case with the M70, M69 etc?

No, the capsule is supposed to be the same design as the Neumann M7 capsule. Thats probably what you're thinking of. The UM70 is a (now discontinued) microphone.

UM70 and M71 are both still produced and are available new.
The do have the original diapragm design.

"1995: The UMT70S and MT71S with an SMD amplifier and transformerless actively balanced output are introduced replacing the UM70, UM70S, M71 and M71S."

The "S" I think stands for "Select". They supposidly dealt with noise issues in the original models.

I notice the MT71S is listed on the MG International site, but not on the MG North American site...

Yeah, I think the original M70 was a transformer based design and the new ones are not. So they might sound quite a bit different...
