I'm wanting to listen to some of my Dad's old records and probably start my own collection. Somewhere along the way, I got rid of his turntable (one of the many things I kick myself in the ass for). Sucks because it was a great turntable.

Anyway, I'm wanting to buy one that's in very good to like new condition. Must have cartridge/stylus, which must be in good shape.

Also, I don't really want some space-age looking DJ turntable. Just a regular turntable with some variable speed options.

PM me if you have one. I'll buy it or we can do a trade for some stuff I have available.

How about maybe an old top o da line Technic's 1200 turntable. Back when I ran Disc Jockeys in nightclubs, they were the tables to have. I think I have 2 decent ones buried somewhere in my storage?>?

I don't know anything about those. Good condition? How much?

you absolutely don't want to use a DJ type cartridge. They track too heavy and aren't particularly high fidelity. You can get a nice Grado for $30 from The Needle Doctor and that's a fairly nice budget cartridge.
The 1200 is a decent 'table if you can get one for a good price. otherwise you could get something like a Sumiko Pro-Ject for a couple hundred bucks which would probably be a better sounding 'table and would come with a decent cartridge like an Ortofon or a Grado installed. Music Hall has one at around the same price and so does Rega now. They're all available at Needledoctor.com

You do know that you'll need a stereo with a phonn input on it so you'll have a RIAA phono-pre?

I've been looking myself. I'm interested in the turtablels that plug directly into your USB port. The go under $175 and you can save the records to your HD.

Yes, that´s cool, but the AD convertion must be awful...

A couple hundred is way out of my price range. I'm looking to be only a casual listener. Not some crazy turntable audiophile.

Yes, my stereo has a phono input. It's the same receiver my Dad was using for his turntable.

If I can't find one, I'm thinking about getting this one. http://www.buy.com/prod/Audio-Techn...-Belt-Drive-Turntable/q/loc/111/90105144.html
