Looking for a USB audio interface with at least one phantom powered mic pre and midi in. Wanting to spend no more than $50 including shipping.

Why don't you just use the USB mixer you have, and buy a USB midi interface for 40 bucks or so like the M-Audio Midisport?

I think it's always better to have more channels just in case you need it...so maybe the mixer/interface is more than you need right now, but it is always good to have some flexibility and opportunity to expand a little in the future, if needed.

Anyways...I thought I would just throw that out there as a different option.

Good luck in your search!

That's a pretty good alternative that would allow me to keep the broad functionality that the mixer offers. Trouble is, the mixer doesn't make a great AI. I think it is better suited for live. I kind of want an all-in-one option so that I don't have to keep messing with drivers and compatibility and additional cables. Just wanting a nice, clean signal path.

So very tempting. Though unfortunately the unit doesn't appear to have MIDI I/O. I'm also looking for more bit depth - 24 at least. The Audiogram looks as though it runs at 16. I sincerely appreciate the offer, though!

I have a Yamaha Audiogram 6 sitting around doing nothing. It shows two inputs, but to my knowledge will only record one at a time. However, it was pretty solid and worked well as my first USB interface.
$50.00 (shipped) works for me. Here's a link...

Update:

Just took another look at my motherboard and it turns out I have a firewire port also (I should have known that, I built the damn computer...)

So, a firewire interface would also work - doesn't HAVE to be USB.

UPDATE:

Found a used Presonus Firebox on Ebay that works famously! Thanks all for the offers and advice.
