i'm a cubase sx 1.02 version
i do everything midi well the challenge i've encounter
is this
i record everything midi but when i play out of cubase the sound are different as if cubase was sending the wrong notes to the synth
as anyone else have or had that same obstacle

thanks

update ....
i recorded tracks individually,
i recorded some strings via midi into cubase
playing it back it sounds like the notes were transposed

L'espion.... now this is one I havn't heard before....couple o' questions:

When your playing the midi into SX does the audio sound like it's supposed to, but then on playback the notes are transposed?

Is the transposition even? ie...the tune is exactly the same, just moved up or down a number of steps?

Is this the first time your using the keyboard, or have you used it on other songs and it behaved properly? You might want to open a new song and see if it does the same thing with a fresh file. If it does then I would check your settings on your keyboard to make sure that you don't have a transposition function in the keyboard turned on (although I would think this would affect it's input as well as the output), and then check your preferences and MIDI settings in SX to make sure that you don't have a transposition on playback set in SX (more likely). Unfortunately I don't know where you would find this setting so some looking in the index of the PDF for "midi transposition" might be in order.

As a last resort you might want to check your midi device manager and make sure that your Input and Output settings for the notes match up for your synth.

Lastly, if your running SX v1.02, I would HIGHLY suggest that you go and update it to v1.03. This will not solve your immediate problem, but 1.03 really solves alot of earlier problems and doesn't add any instability to the program. They have up to v1.051 out now, but I have read some people have issues with the newer verstion so personally I am waiting to download it until I hear everything is all clear for the majority of users. 1.03 works perfectly for me.

Good luck and let us know if you get your problem solved.

thanks bmk

-the keyboard is not new i've been using it , no problemos
-the song plays like it suppose to when recording
-i did open another song and it's the same result
-yes the transposition is even and far far far to the left
-it's recorded well in audio

it must be something in Sx that i touch because virtually it's unlikely i have messed up settings in the keyboard cuz i've only left the sequencer page just to save changes in the tracks
but then again i don't always what my other hand is doing

i've been reluctant to upgrade for obvious reasons
but i'm stilll learning the app so i don't get to technical , to really feel the bugs effects in differents version

BMK do you use wavelab 4 if so what version do you run
cuz i'm still running it from the box (original version)

But let me check it out and update y'all on the transposition situation
Again thanks

Ya, it sounds like you must have hit some sort of transposition setting inside SX then. I wish I knew more about it and could help you out, but I havn't done any transposing in SX yet. If it's not readily appearent in poking around, I'd check the index of the PDF for MIDI, transposition. Possibly in the Preferences section?

Anyhow, regarding v1.03, I completely understand the if it ain't broke don't fix it philosophy...since my system runs stable I always wait a week or more after new versions are introduced to see how it pans out wiht all the users. 1.03 is regarded by everyone as extremely stable and did not introduce any new bugs, unlike 1.05. Here are a list of bugs it fixes:

FIXES:

- MIDI Thru Timing improved
- No more Audio Dropouts
- Undo History doesn't get lost anymore
- Master Setup Preset can be restored correctly
- Various SOLO / MUTE improvements
- Window-Layout related crash fixed
- Stepfilter plugin now restores with correct preset
- Houston: The "Instruments" and "Groups" fader banks work again
- Hidden Mixer Channels are now skipped when navigating the channel selection with arrow keys
- MIDI Send FX routing is now saved and restored always correctly
- Possible crash on rendering crossfade fixed

So if you think any of thesemight apply to what your doing you may want to dig up the upgrade to 1.03. Like I said, I'm not sold on 1.05 or 1.051 yet, so I am waiting a bit.

I don't use wavelab....my cousin got me hooked on Soundforge 6.0 and I love it so I use it for my post production needs.

Anyhow, good luck with this midi stuff...hopefully it's a box that accidently got checked or somthing simple like that.

i have to transpose everything to 44 in order to play it back

it has to be during the recording process that the transposition occurs
because when i open an existing midi project in cubase it plays back at the proper location (as recorded )

does anyone knows what i've messed up and a remedy

re: upgrade i think it's a must so as to reset everything to default

btw can i download the upgrade into a different folder so i can choose which version to run if needs be

e.g if you want to keep Access 97 and Office 2000(w/Access included) on the same drive they can't coexist in Microsoft office folder so you must keep them separated
as anyone tried to keep different version in different folders?

my search in the manual was not all that rewarding but i learned how to do something else

Back to work
it was the midi patchbay set on transpose inadvertently

as for the upgrade i just reinstalled another sx on another HD and upgraded that one to 1.03
