WOW64 in XP 64-bit

I've been reading up about the the 64-bit OS and i came across WOW64

it is a process in XP 64 that allows programs that are 32-bit to install and run ona 64 bit processer as if it were a 32-bit. HENCE, THEY WORK

however my question is, do you need to run or boot the system in WOW64 or is this running at all times??

anyone know anything about this?
 
I have Windows XP x64 installed on my pc and have never heard of WOW64.
X64 is backwards compatible with 32bit programs, well most of them.
If you look on your Hardrive (usually C drive) you will see "Program Files (x86) and another "Program Files". The "Program Files (x86)" folder is the folder X32 programs install to as default. The "Program Files" folder is for the x64.
If you look in folders you can see what is in x64 or x32.
Most programs now have x64 updates, as well as hardware updates.
I have a Soundblaster Live Platinum/Live drive which is about 6 years old and there was a x64 update for it.

Go to your hardware websites and go to support, you will usually find the updates for x64 there. Same with your programs.

I HAVE NEVER BOOTED TO OR USED WOW64, SO ITS PROBABLY AUTO

yeah it seems like my sony programs do not work on this 64 bit i dont think they have support

ive looked on the website and it tells me to install all the premilinary program first like direct x and .net framework .. and then i go to install those and they wont install. It says they cannot install on this version of windows...
 
Which sony programs are you trying to upgrade?
I have Direct X installed on mine with no probs.

You must have a Genuine Copy of Windows to download these!

For DirectX system requirements it says x64 is covered:

Just re-installed DirectX to make sure and it did.

.NET Framework 1.1:
When your installing it, it will say, after installing .Net framework 1.1 press the start button, then click "Run" and put in this script : cscript %SystemDrive%\inetpub\AdminScripts\adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1" then hit enter. I put this here so you can copy and paste it into the "run" menu.

The problem is with finding 64bit drivers, most programs should work fine
 
Many programs installers will not even load in 64.

Ive done all the x64 testing and I'll say it again, things just don't work. I dont care what you may find being said on the internet. Ive experienced all of it first hand.

yeah i agree with you .. and most importantly the drivers for my sound card dont even work so right there its pointless... i use this computer for home recording there couldn't be a more crutial piece than the sound card.

I even went on tascam.com and got their drivers for 64-bit and even those don't work
