Ive been doing ok with my midi controller but my computers sound has been stopping and starting (stuttering) ALOT when I play my midi keyboard with The Grand 2. Now my computers audio does sometimes give out becuase ive heard windows xp has some problems with external sound devices (my tascam fw-1082). Anyway im in a predictament now do I have to go and buy a real keyboard with samples that are suitable (which means its probably going to be expensive).

I may try calling tascam to fix the stopping and on the sound but I dont think theyd be able to fix it. Its a problem ive never been able to fix. HELP ME! What should I do!?

For now im going to the music store and trying out keyboards :D.
Thanks,
Dave

I'd check the latency setting on the soundcard, in your case the fw-1082. Increase it a bit, and the stuttering should go away.

What should the setting be at? Its at 256.

I have my hammerfalls set to 1024, should be the same kinda deal.

Try it, you can always set it back.......

IMO, ultimately you might wanna have a real keyboard around for lots of reasons. For me (big keyboard guy), sometimes I dont wanna hassle with the computer, I just wanna play a song. :o Its nice to just sit down without booting up and loading stuff.

A lot of the $600 keyboards sound pretty darn good to me. All should have SOME kind of usable keyboard sounds, at least for me. It might not sound like a 6 terabyte sample :D , but my $599 keyboard has a piano on it that I am more than happy to present on any recording of any budget.

DavidK I agree with you 100 percent. I always want to not boot my comp and play a tune but cant. I just have to save up my money. I played the yamaha p70 today and really like it so I think I might get that my local music store sells it for 550 which is a pretty good price 50 bucks cheaper anywhere ive seen it.

I just kinda want to fix my computer too hehehe thanks for ur input tho dave. nice name btw ;).

How much RAM do you have? You could also maxing out on RAM, see the processor utilization when playing the Grand, and see if spikes coinside with the hiccups.

I think setting my latency to 1024 fixed everyting! it does take up a lot of ram but I put it on eco and ram save mode.

gotta love those latency issues with softsynths. thats why i only use keys/modules.
