I've been looking for a way of measuring w&f without having to buy a meter. It seems a bit tricky but I've just found this link:

how to? simple wow/flutter measurement - diyAudio

I have just used Audacity to analyse a 1000 Hz tone recorded on my Tascam 244 after fitting a new pinch roller. I'm not sure how to analyse the results. Using Audacity to analyse the spectrum gives a peak level of the wow of -67dB at 1065 Hz. Am I correct in thinking that this translates to a peak figure of around 0.05% for the w&f? I'd appreciate any thoughts on this.

Since posting this I've just found of free software - wfgui. Using this on a 1000 Hz tone I get readings of 0.12% RMS and 0.21 peak (DIN). Not so bad maybe but about twice the original spec. I think this is because the new pinch roller seems a little eccentric.

Have just looked at my other machine which I fitted with a new roller a few months back. This roller doesn't have visual eccentricity and is giving much better figures of 0.02% RMS and 0.45% peak. Looks like I'll have to take the first one apart again and fit a new roller.........
