Manning, or anyone else,

if you could tell me how to save a multi-track session, so that it can be later opened and have all the MULTI tracks there, instead of mixing down to one....would someone be willing to tell me how to do that, then be willing to recieve my file, and play with my session to see what THEY would do to it. THEN, maybe they could share how they made it sound, how they made it sound...and everything would be a lot less confusing....anybody??
thanks.....
stressed but never dis-tressed

In Cool Edit Pro, or Adobe Audition, go to [Multitrack View] File/Save Session As and a window will pop up that allows you to name the multitrack session and specify the folder it goes into, just like a Word document. It will save as a .ses file and then will ask you how to save the individual tracks. For uncompressed audio that you can also burn to CD (assuming the sample rate and bit depth are appropriate), save the tracks a PCM .wav files, and, of course, save them to the same folder. There are a great many options, but unless you're doing something specialized (and you know what you're doing) it's better to go with this format.

Ordinarily, when you exit, or open a new session, CEP/AA, it will automatically ask you how & where you want to save both the session and the individual tracks.

You should then be able to burn a data CD from the folder and send it to someone else who has CEP/AA to open on their computer. I don't know that the .ses format is read by any other program, which can be a problem if the other person is using other software.

oh, so there's not a way to send them over the computer??

That would be ONE BIG FILE. A small project might be 500 MEGS. Quite a few of mine are well over 1 GIG.

There are services for pay that allow you to upload to their website and have collaborators contribute to. Transferring from one computer to another? Buy an external drive, record to that, and FedEx it off to your partner.

You can do so by saving each individual audio file as an MP3 but, you'll obviously be downgrading your quality of the recording.

If you need to do so, try saving them at 192 kbps or above. Then you can transfer the entire session folder via AIM or another file sharing program.

Tell you what to do. If you already have all of the wavs and the project info in a single folder, right click on it and go to PROPERTIES and see how big it is. If it's under 700 MEGS, it'll all fit on a single CD-R. If it's larger than that, make two new folders and put the project info and half the wavs in one folder and the balance of the wavs in the other folder. Put folder one on one CD-R and the other folder on a second CD-R. It's easy as hell. You can then snail mail the CD-Rs to have anyone do whatever and that person could add tracks, whatever, and mail it back to you. If you'd like, get it on CD-R and I'll take a stab at mixing it for you.

Going back to the .ses file. If you were to save your session as the .ses file, it could be sent along with the tracks and anyone using cool/AA could open that file, but again, the person would also have to have the tracks that are used in the session.

How many tracks are in your session???
