Hey guys!

Our band has whipped up this Christmas style song and I wanted to run it by everyone to see if they found any problems with it.

I'm trying to master this myself, so please let me know as well if you hear any problems there before we release it as a single.

You can also check out the tune here: Rudolph >

The vocal performance is off on the two sides in the first verse. Also didn't hear any ph in Rudol in the first couple. Cool song. My wife heard this and laughed. She's a huge fan of anything Christmas music. Thumbs up! :thumbs up:

Maybe my ears are starting to get a little suspect, but everything sounded kind of panned all over the place when listening with my headphones, which I think gives it a good, fuller sound. That's a relative greenhorn's opinion, so take it for what it's worth.

BROKEN_H: Yeah, I need to see if I can get those two sides of vocals to match up a little better. I'll look into the missing "ph". Thanks for listening and the feedback.

NOTTHATBRIGHT: Thanks for checking it out. I try to give a good 3 dimensional feel to everything I'm doing, but that doesn't always work out for the best.

Thanks guys!

The lyrics are rushed through in many places, so with the doubling effect you've got going its hard to make out what's being said sometimes. With the beat of the song being at its relatively sedate pace, it kind of makes the lyrics seem even more rushed.

Cool song but the mix is all a bit too bass heavy for me. The low end is booming on the bass and kick. (Not in a good way)

MJBPHOTOS: Thanks for checking it out. I appreciate the observations.

MR. CLEAN: You're totally right. I only had a chance to listen on headphones prior to posting. Since, I've listened in my car and the bass and kick are WAY too heavy. I "think" i have it better now, but it's hard to tell without another listen in the car. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, +1 on the too loud bass. I know reggae tunes are supposed to be heavy on the bass, but you've overdone it a bit, I think. :D If you cut the bass a bit between 100-150 Hz and maybe added a bit in the 50-80 range that might work a bit better. When I first listened to it on headphones with the vocals panned hard left and right and the really heavy bass, I got the odd image of two widely separated heads bobbing in a sea of bass, lol.

Don't take these criticisms too badly, it's a really fun song with a great tune. :D

Thanks Bubba Po. I'vs since tweaked the bass and it should be less insane. It's not posted yet, but thanks. I swear I can't mix for the low end. It's driving me nuts.

Is it your ears or your room treatment? Most can't mix low end if their room is lying to them.

Most of my direct mixing is done with a pair of ATH-M50, so It's probably my ears...or brain.

The bass is kind of flabby sounding and a little too hot in the mix. I'm not crazy about the doubled vocals. They would work better if there wasn't drastic differences in the sound and effects on each one...that and them being panned hard right and hard left. It seems like there is a bit too much effects on everything. I think the track would sound better if mix was drier. I like the song...Good tune man.
