Hi, guys:

I just tracked this tune, haven't mixed it yet besides volume settings. I was hoping to get some fresh ideas before I begin trying to mix it. Also, some help on coming up with melody/lyrics for vocal would be great, too :)

*note:
I can't say I like this tune musically, it was more of a challenge for off-beat guitar playing for me(and the bad timing shows it, too) Unfortunately I can't go back and re-track anything for awhile due to a finger accident. So, please put up with my bad timing for now :(

"you name it"<<I mean it, need help on naming it :D

It's name is "Skiffadiddle", I know because it told me.

Cool smoothfunk??

I don't know what to call it but it gets a :) from me.

Nice changes and stuff. I wish I had a nice pre and mic I'd totally like to try some vocals on it.

Tight, clean, dirty, rockin...nice.

Oh, one more request, guys. What do you think I should do with the solo tone? I honestly hate it, tried everything with my Meek, POD, and Amplitube plug-in in combination with micing an amp. Can't get that smooth Phish sound:mad:

Jake:
Thanks for checking out. What does Skiffadiddle mean??

"Things I like about you" but i'll use "Skiffadiddle" some where in there:D . Hey dude I totaly dig this and whether or not anyone elese takes ya up on it, i'm gonna write something to this and send ya a copy. I dig this funk like crazy man...thanks.

That was quite an interesting exercise there. I really like the smooth on the rythym guitar. THe strings were nice. The drums could come up some more. I liked the first part of the guitar solo, but the tube screamer sound didnt seem to fit the flow. I`m hearing more of a smooth fat dual humbucker les paul sound. Nice bass pickin too :)

I call this "start at 2:22"

that part caught me for some reason. I think you should start the song right there and come up with a melody to lay over the top of that!

so what did you do to your finger?

This is a seriously cool piece, especially the change at 2:22! The only thing I didn't care for was the bass line at the begiining. It was just too "standard". And one of the synth patches was a bit cheesey. The one at 1:10 I think. The rest I like.

Many thanks for adding vocal for me. Please feel free to post a link in this thread when it's done or you can send the mp3 to me at: alan@indiana.edu if you prefer it that way.

Toki987:
"smooth fat dual humbucker les paul sound"? I have only played Les Paul a few times, don't know its signature sound yet. But, I definitely need a better tone on this solo tho. Phish's guitar sound is what I am after for this application, punchy, long sustained, yet not overly distorted. Any idea on his rig?

erichenryus:
That's interesting about the 2:22 idea. I fell asleep in my art history class, woke up and those chords just popped up in my head.
About my finger. I sliced 1/4 of my nail off alone with some finger tip when cutting onions:(

I am having a "real" bass player to replace my half-ass bass playing. So, it will get better :) thanks for the listen

cool tune! I'll echo the comments about the bass line.. it's a bit too busy in some spots.. the drums sounded a bit strange at times, almost like I could hear a loop or something.. WOW! The change @2:25 is great.. I love stuff like that.. very cool.. the second part of this tune is great.. that little organ part @1:24 scared me.. Yeah it sounds like there are some lazy drum hits or something.. good listen though..

Pretty cool tune. I loved that nice Fender Rhodes sound in there at about 1:23. I've always loved that sound since I was a youngin. :D. All the changes in there are pretty cool, although I am now feeling a little schizo :D. I also agree that I like 2:22 onward in this song a little better than before that.

thanks for the listen, guys. Really have to retrack the bass line.

Can anyone think of any mixing suggestion?

AL

I've listened about 5 times and like it better each time. The bass sounds fine to me, in fact you did a really good job with it.

You need some really cheesey vocal harmonies at the 1:05-1:22 part and again at 1:52.

I don't think you're too far off on a good sound for the guitar lead. Nice lead by the way. If anything it's either a little too processed or too much preamp sound. But it's really not bad. By the time we hear it we've already learned that this is a pretty ecclectic song.

Fun tune!
