Hey guys. Thought maybe you wise ones could help out a 20 year old just now starting to build my first home studio, mostly for my own project's purposes. I am by no means rich--I park cars for a living. I figured I'd just clump all my questions together as one in this category in hopes of getting a few responses. I must also say what a helpful resource this site is and how generous it is of you guys to share your knowledge with others that desperately want to soak up as much as possible.
I run Cubase 5.1 on the PC w/ an Audiophile 2496. I have the Triton Pro and recently experienced my first failure in research when I bought a mackie 1202 that has enough inputs/outs for my use but only a two-band EQ. I have a few questions I guess. Is the 4-band EQ on Cubase going to be sufficient to boost/cut tracks or am I going to have to try and unload the mackie and get a newer version with 4EQ? Along the same lines, why does it seem that when I pan hard left or right w/ the mixer it cuts the levels to almost inaudible?
Also, I'm well aware of the fact that my next purchase is going to have to be some good monitors, as right now I'm using quite colorful pioneers (which are great for intense movies but not so in the flat response area), I've gotten the sense that the best of the "upper low-end" are teh Yorkville YSM-1's or the Tannoy Reveals. Is this the case? And, will the reciever I'm using now work as the amp or will I need one of those as well?
One more quick one, is a MIDI controller necessary being that I already have connections via the Audiophile? If so any hints?
In advance I'll say thanks a ton and apologize for what may be ignorant, long questions but again I'm pretty new to all this but feel like I'm actually spending money on something productive
and fulfilling.
