Woohoo! Possibly a good acoustic guitar.

It does. Just write .mp3 instead of .mp

It sounds like the voice is clipping. The accoustic sounds a bit cheap, but that's what you can expect from a dynamic. The playing isn't really solid. I think you'd get better results if you'll record each track seperately. Maybe try to stereo record the guitar, with both mics.

Yeh I agree

record the guitar first with both mics. Pan one left and one right

Then you can go back and record the singing. This will help you concentrate on your singing more and you can do multiple takes

This is a recording of my 19year old band mate. It's just a practice as the whole song is not completed

i agree with the previous posts. record guitar in stereo, then pan to left and right, and vocals on top. add some verb and dont crank the weak quality volumes, amplify them.

i would agree with all of you, but i would like to know what is vocal clipping? by the way i played through this live after i wroe it so it's still in it's demo stages. i'm just mainly concerned about vocal clipping since i have no clue what it is. also about adding reverb, i can't add any from my 4 track, is it possible to do it somehow? i recorded in a garage.

klosius -

Clipping means that the signal was too high for the microphone pre-amp, and caused some distortion.
It is always possible to use reverb, but it varies between machines. What kind of a 4-track are you using?

(You would also need a reverb unit, of course. For a cassete 4-track, a guitar Reverb pedal would work just fine).

oh ok, for some reason i dont hear it on my master. i'm pretty tone deaf. i have a yamaha mt400. i've seen some danelectro reverb pedals for pretty cheap, how would they work? i think my mic would go up to +6 on the meter. whats a good way (level) to get it without clipping or distortion but at the same time not be too quiet. was it on vocals or guitar? my guess is both since i used two mics for this and sang into the same mics picking up the guitar.

Thanks, I found it and replied on another post somewhere. I think it is posted twice. Yeah he deleted the other post where I commented on his singing ability.

Hi kilosius,

Peaks -
Since you're using tape, it's not really a bad thing if the levels go higher then 0dB. +6 is a bit much though. Make sure only your highest peaks hit the red zone. Generally speaking, it's almost impossible to clip a cassete (you need to hit like +10, +20), but it's better if your levels are reasonable.

Reverb -
I checked out the specification for your 4 track, and it's a pretty nice machine, and you can easily use external effects with it. Just patch one cable from the output labeled Aux 1 into the input of the reverb unit, and two patched from the outputs of the reverb unit into one of yuor 4-tracks stereo inputs. During mix down, turn up the aux1 knobs on the tracks you want to send to the reverb unit, and gradually turn up the volume for the stereo channel you used as an effect return. I have no idea what Dalelectro pedals are like, but you can usually find full effect rack-units like Alesis Midiverb for less then 100$ used. I don't know what your budget is, but check out pawn shops and music stores that carry used gear. You can sometimes find great stuff inthere (Pedals and racks).
Good luck!

In regards to clipping-

There are 3 places to clip or overload. The mic preamp, mix buss and the tape. Make sure you have adjusted the knob by the mic input so that the input signal is not clipping. There may be a button on your level meter t select Pre/Post. This would be PRE.

Then make sure you are not clipping the mixer/buss. This would be the Post monitor.

Then make sure you are not clipping to tape. This may be labeled as the Record monitor or they may combine it with Post on a cheap 4 track.

A strong signal thru all the gain stages without clipping is the key to getting a clean, thick, solid sound.

you guys are awesome for not commenting on singing ability and actually helping me record. too many different people have bashed me about singing. and to fangar, i haven't deleted your other posts that you made about this song. i would like to say that my favorite genre of music (punk rock and emo) is more concerned about fun than technicality as you can probably hear. thanks again for all of the recording help. i shall use it in the future.

You're Right I found it under one of your two other crossposts for the same tune:
