Been suffering for a few years now with a Sony CRX 100E that only burns at 4X speed. Since I started doing some computer recording now, I found Windows 98 to NOT be up to the task (yup, optimized the hell out of it and it stilled liked to crash after a while....lost too much work from that!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
), so I decided to just go with a full Windows 2000 installation, instead of dual booting so I can run NTFS and gain the reliability. The CRX 100E WILL NOT work on 2k, and it never will. So, off I went in search of a CDRW drive.
Tried a Retail Plus+ drive. Nada!!! Damn thing sucked ass....
Bought a new Sony CRX 175A. Nada again!!! Worked, but Wavelab does not support it! So I couldn't burn from Wavelab with it....
So I started looking at Plextors. I looked over the Wavelab list this time.....LOL.....and found that it supported the 2410A, but I couldn't find a 2410A drive anywhere, nor a 121032A, 121032S, 1210A, 1210S, 1210 TA...etc.....they are all too old. I fretted taking a chance on buying yet ANOTHER drive that Wavelab wouldn't support, and the TA at the end of this drive's model number had me wondering what the hell the difference between the "A" model and the "TA" model. What does the "T" mean??!?!?!?!?!?!?! No answers, except that I noticed that all the drives with "T" on them had the Buffer Underrun Protection technology. So heck, I figured that Wavelab wouldn't know the difference....took a chance.
What a great drive! Not only is 24X write speed pretty killer (and no, I will not be writing much of anything at that speed, but it means that 16X speeds will work well....
), but while I was burning an Audio CD at 24X, I dialed into the internet, opened Outlook Express, IE6, PalTalk, got into the HR.com room, talked ont he mic a bit, and opened my J Station software, all WHILE the disked burned!!! Played the disk, and not even one single error! Nice....
So, I am a Plextor believer now!
Oh, EZ CD Creator 5 Basic sucks ass!!!
