Won't play in home or car stereo

Ok this is probably the MOST basic question in here...LOL.

My HP Pavilion came with an Hp CD-R+ 8100 series writer (if this info will help). And it can came with Adaptec Easy CD Creator version 3.5c software. Also, the CD's i'm trying to record on are CD-RW.

So when i try to make a CD it plays back fine on my PC but won't play in my home or car stereo...why IS that? I tried to figure it out when i first got this PC...with no luck of course...so i gave up. But I just came across this forum and was hoping for some help.

Obviously i'm not Bill Gates with a PC...and info would be helpful. I read that possibly i should be using CD-R blank discs instead of CD-RW.

So...is there any way for me to make CD's that i can play on my home or car stereo.....or did i just get shafted and pay extra for this CD-R drive? =)

Yeah, CD-RWs won't play on standard audio CD players.

Actually, if your car and home audio CD players are more than a couple of years old it's very likely that they will be unable to play CR-Rs either...
 
No you didn't get shafted, you're just using the wrong cd's. CD-RW's will only play back on a CD-RW drive. Which the cd player in your stereo and car is not. What you need to get are CD-R's, record once only cd's. These will generally play in any newer cd players but be aware. As Al said even these may not play back on older cd players.

BTW, I use Adaptec Easy CD Creator to make Cd's (to Cd-R) all the time without a hitch. Hope that explains it.
 
Al & Strata....well...thank you VERY much guys...you're giving me some hope...LOL. I think I'll try that tomorrow and if it works I'm gonna have to barracade myself in my apartment and get caught up on some recording. =)

If Al is right then they might not still work on my home stereo...but i'm more worried about the car...which is a year 2000 car...but has a stock stereo. Hopefully the people at Honda took this problem into consideration when they put the stereo in...LOL.

Your 2000 car's stereo is bound to be fine... I too used Easy CD Creator and the CDs I make play fine everywhere I've tried...
 
Mostly true.

But I do know some ppl whose home stereos ARE able to read CD-RW. Although, it may also depend on the CD-RW media as well.
 
I agree with Mr Lip I have personally recorded music on a CD-RW and played it on my home stereo, Its a sony and it is six years old!!
 
Here is one more thought to throw out at you. Make sure that when you record the cd to finalize it. This may be something that you are already doing, just hought i would try to help.

I think you should confess for your sin of buying an HP Pavillion. I avoid HP computers, Compaq, IBM, etc. like the plague.

I'm strictly a home-brew guy, but I realize not everyone out there likes that. Dell makes some fiiine PCs, though. They're good guys. I totally avoid HP, Compaq and all those big ones 'cause they're so specialized, you can never take 'em apart and make 'em work right when they start getting messed up (and most people I've seen who use HPs, Compaq & stuff - their PCs get junked and they can't upgrade because all the parts were proprietary!)

So... I'm into customization. It's cheaper in the long run, and things just work better. Or so it has been in my experience. But I was only joking about the confessing thing.. I just like giving folks a hard time. :D

LOL...oh you can give me shit anytime ya want...i'm all about that. =)

But i'm just not much for taking PC's apart. So i guess if i wanna upgrade...i just buy a new HP...LOL. Wait...that sounds like something someone with money would say...and i'm certainly not one of those...LOL...so i'll just use this thing till it melts into a pile of plastic. =)
