My brother-in-law is going into the wedding picture/movie business and needs to pick up a few really good wireless mics that can take a lot of use without breaking down.

I don't know enough to suggest what are the best brands out there for this purpose.

If you can give a siggestion on this it would be greatly appreciated.

:D

"good wireless mics that can take a lot of use without breaking down"

Thats pretty much the definition of a Shure mic:D Look into their UC line:)

Does he want a battery powered receiver so that it's portable? Or is he OK with having to have his receiver plugged into AC power? If he wants a portable receiver, Sennheiser has protable receivers in their EW100/500 line.

Sennheiser and Shure. About $ 500 and up each. Avoid any of the price leader mics, or the VHF stuff as the signal quality is poor and available bandwidth is too crowded. It would pay him as well to research where the industry is going and how soon - FM will probably overtake UHF in a few years for the same reason - signal quality and decreasing available band width. So if he goes with UHF now (FM still being scary expensive) he will need to think about how long the mic will take to pay for itself or get depreciated - what is the shortest path he can find to recover equity.

This is an area where it does pay to go with the top quality you can manage - "almost" good enough is worthless when it comes to signal transmission.
