ATTENTION Windows XP Media Center Edition users

As I'm sure some of you are aware, there is a major problem with Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Win.XP MCE's video features significantly interfere with the vast majority of audio applications.

A rather shocking list of audio hardware and software that is not supported by Win.XP MCE can be found here: http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/ts/detail.php?Index=30163

Even M-Audio's site states that they will not support this operating system: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=24dfdfc72b87a76e44bb230c809fef0c

This is really surprising considering that most computers being sold in stores today come with XP MCE!!!! I can't beleive this isn't a bigger deal in the home recording community.

My question to you is: Do you know of ANY reliable audio soft/hardware that is compatible with XP MCE? The only software that I've heard works well with this OS is Audacity(heh.) and Cubase SX. The biggest problem has been finding an external soundcard that is compatible with XP MCE. I just need to track guitar and vocals - and I shouldn't have to downgrade to XP Home just for that!

If any of you are successfully using audio hardware or software with XP MCE - please let me know. I would love to know exactly what you're using.
Thanks for your time!

Easy answer. Computers being sold in stores aren't fit for PRO audio recording.

Hit it right on the dot. Any computer bought is needed to be modified. Also I wouldn't buy a branded computer regardless. Build one, and you'll know what your expecting out of the system.

I do know though, Nuendo 3, Samplitude 7 & 8 , Sonar 5 & 6, Reason 3, FL Studio, Sound Forge 7, Wavelab 5, Waves bundles, Izotope, Stylus RMX, all can run on Windows Media Center. that has been verified by me. I JUST bought a laptop Saturday and loaded all my softwares onto the system, and they all work. No hardware has been installed yet, but I plan on getting an extra 1814 for it, so I'll let you know if that is compatible with the OS

Toshiba Satellite
Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz
2GB DDR2 667
200GB SATA drive
DVDRW
Intel Graphic's
Windows MCE with gay preloaded softwares

I used Media Center OEM with no issues at all for over 2 years.
I think the issue will stem from the crap that comes pre-loaded on store-bought PCs, not from MCE itself.

All the other crap they load up only slows the system down considerably. Driver issues come from the companies either writing software to support MCE or not. About under half of the systems out there still are being sold as XP home or pro. MCE comes in when they try and advertise systems as entertainment products with fancy remote controls, media card readers, etc... You won't ever see a workstation sold with MCE as it's OS. MCE will have a very short life span, and I think was created "in the mean while" until Vista released. It's basically Creative's media player thing that came with the Audigy's & up but with a Microsoft brand. MCE was made for the ever so popular growing usage mp3's & other media.
