so i got my delta 44 and all that crap up and running finally, with my new comp, which all together is awesome might i add..haha

but when i mixdown a song to a 24bit wav, the media player wont play it! it trys to download a special codec, and of course, no cigar...it says it unplayable..lol

any ideas?

Windows Media Player does not posess the appropriate codec to play 24-bit wav files. If you bring the file into Sonar or SoundForge or other software that supports 24-bit playback, it should be ok.

My assumption is that the PCM wav spec followed by windows doesn't know anything about 24-bit, and gaks on the file.

ah, that sure is a pain in the ass...ha...

oh well, thanks.

Ditto with Heinz. In fact I've brought 24 bit files over to machines with just SoundBlaster cards, and if playing through Sound Forge they will play back. It is aparently smart enough to hack them down to 16 bit for playback.

musicmatch 7.2 plays back my 24bit files fine with my delta 1010

Does it play back at 16bit or 24bit though?

It appears to playback 24bit. If you look at the properites of the 'wave out' device, it does show 24bit.
