Hi Guys,

First time caller, long time listener...

I recently put together a new mobile build using a laptop i bought in 2006.

Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 - Bios A17
===========================
SW : Cubase SL 3
CPU : Intel T2250 - 1.73Ghz Core Duo
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate
HD : WD 160GB @ 5400RPM
FW : Best Connectivity (TI Chip Set) - 2 Port Firewire ExpressCard
AI : M-Audio FW-410 - Latest Drivers
RAM : 4GB

The 6400/E1505 has a notoriously bad Ricoh Firewire chipset, which is why i bought a dedicated TI one, however still I can't seem to get rid of consistent pops/clicks during the recording of audio unless i reduce the buffer to 1024 and Sample Rate to 44100 and even at that i'm not sure i trust it.

I've tried :

Disabling all hardware except the bare essentials
Killing almost all exe's / services not related to rcording including Antivirus etc.

Nothing seems to help.

I also tried my friends Samplitude 11 with the exact same results, tons of Lost Buffer errors until 1024/44100, (in fact it seems easier to monitor these issues with Samp, any lost buffer indicator in Cubase??)

Any ideas what may be causing my problem? Uninstall Windows 7?!? Or is my laptop just not up to the task?

I have a 2nd Harddrive which came from this Laptop that has Windows XP on it, so i guess i could install Cubase there, see if i get any better results....

Suggestions appreciated!

Thanks

Kwikk.
