I currently have an M-Audio FireWire Solo, which worked fine until I built a new PC and moved to Windows 7. I'd rather not go back to XP, and I'm fed up with M-Audio ignoring customer complaints that their Win 7 64-bit drivers end up producing a serious number of clicks, pops, etc.

Are there any companies out there making a similar audio interface that's known to work well with Win 7 64-bit? FireWire or USB2, I don't care, just looking for the ability to handle two mics with minimum latency and consistent usability.

I can't say if any are good, but I can say don't get a Tascam, at least unless they release some updated drivers. I've got the US-144 and it causes all kinds of problems on Windows 7 64bit.

Good to know.

PreSonus doesn't seem to be getting too many complaints, but they only released drivers a week or two ago.

my 3 cents worth

I don't know if anything is going to work under Win 7 for a while, everywhere I look people are having nothing but problems trying to record audio in Win 7, even worse than Vista.. I just happen to stumble on the White Paper M$ issued for Win 7 drivers, especially for Firewire and it seems they have changed all the rules, supposedly they found a much better way to make things work; but then they said that about Vista too.
I bought the Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire last year thinking I could finally get to record more than one track at a time, but my old computer it turned out was too slow, so I got a new one, not knowing any better I got a 64 bit dual core, and it had Vista installed and of course it wouldn't work, non functioning driver issues, then I did the Win 7 upgrade because it wasn't supposed to have driver problems, and it all just got a lot worse.
Took me months to figure out that the lager problem isn't Windows but that the hardware guys are not writing the new working drivers, which to me is stupid on their part since the only thing you can buy now is multi-core 64 bit systems running Win 7; unless you can afford a MAC.
I would suggest that anyone with an XP system that works keep it until they new drivers arrive and are proven to really work for your particular hardware in your computer model and Windows version.
For now I'm stuck with a mixer that's a paper weight desk ornament, Alesis decided to just pull the mixer off the market instead of fixing the driver problem. Their last communication to me said it could take them a year before they get around to fixing the Vista driver problem [Are drivers really that hard to write I keep wondering] and then told me that only a stupid person would get Win 7, not very encouraging words. They also refused to extend the warranty until I do get to use it, or even give me a refund because I can't use it. I'm guessing they don't want any new customers, or old ones to buy new computers.
So for now I'm stuck trying to find a good used 32 bit with XP pro I could afford, after wasting all that money on the new stuff not much is left, since no one seems to be selling new ones anymore.
I even thought about going to Linux, there is a new version just for recording called Linux Studio, but that still leaves me with the no drivers problem. I might have to go back to school to learn how to write my own drivers if I ever want to use the mixer with the new computer.

Hi all.

I am posting as a reply here as I didn’t know where else to do it, hopefully I can get some sort of resolution!

I have spent the past day and a half trying to sort out problems which seem to have been experienced already be MANY people – ie Tascam US122 or US144 compatibility with Windows 7 64 bit!

I have come to the following conclusions (PLEASE tell me if you agree / disagree with them) :

1. There are no Windows 7 64 bit drivers for my old US122, only Vista 64 bit drivers (which I installed and don’t seem to have done anything, although some people say it worked for them)
2. There are Windows 7 64 bit drivers for the newer US144 MKII
3. I assume the above drivers from Point 2 actually work fine and are hassle free, as all complaint threads seem to cease around February 2010 or once the new drivers are suggested (I assume this is the approximate time they were released).
4. I STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!! MY OLD US122 STILL WORKS FINE ON MY OLD SYSTEM BUT I THINK I NEED TO UPGRADE AS I NOW HAVE A WHOLE NEW SYSTEM INCLUDING W7 AND IT DOESN’T SEEM TO LIKE IT ETC ETC. THE US144 MKII APPEARS TO HAVE EVERYTHING I WANT, HOWEVER I KEEP SEEING BAD REVIEWS AND COMMENTS ON IT!

Can someone please help put my mind at ease before I do something stupid like buy something that wont work or waste money where it’s not required?!?

Thankyou

I'm going to tell you something that I mention in every single MY INTERFACE DOESN'T WORK IN WINDOWS 7 AAAARRRGHASDHFKLASDASKLJASKLDJL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thread.

You can in many cases use the Vista drivers if you run the driver installation program in compatibility mode for Windows Vista.

I did this for my M-Audio Delta 1010lt and subsequently 1010 before the beta 7 drivers came out and it worked just fine with no hiccups whatsoever. I would bet that this works for many other interfaces as well, M-Audio and otherwise.

Try it. Might work.

You have to right-click on the driver installation program and select "Properties"

Then click on the compatibility tab. If it's not present you have a version of 7 which doesn't feature compatibility mode. That sucks. Otherwise, continue reading. After you've clicked on the "Compatibility" tab you select "Windows Vista SP2" or whatever the latest issue of Vista is in the list. Apply. Boom. Done.

Yes, by the way, M-Audio does suck. Many of their current offerings are essentially obsolete. PCI cards? What is this, 1998? Get with the program guys.

I installed Win7-64 bit on my machine a few weeks ago, and my Presonus Firebox seems to be working very well so far. I haven't done any heavy work with it yet but everything seems stable and I've used it for several hours so far. My Stealthpedal also has 64-bit windows drivers that seem to be working really well. Either one of those would probably work for you.

I recently moved over to win 7 x64 as well. I was using my PreSonus Firebox with 32bit XP with no problems. Now it won't sync (red light). I went on the PreSonus forum, found some suggestions, and downgraded drivers and all that, still doesn't work.

So I would think twice about getting a PreSonus. I was going to upgrade to a PreSonus Firestudio Project. Now I'm looking at other options.

Does ANY audio interface work reliably with win7 x64?

For the record, if anyone is readin / searching for this info - I have W7 64 bit running Cubase AI4 & Cubase 5 and it works perfect, so long as all the latest drivers are installed obviously. I also use the Steinberg CI2 and it is perfect. Well recommended!

No problems at all using Presonus Firestudio mobile and Win 7 64.

love it

Just got my Fast Track Ultra up and running. It works like a charm with Windows 7 64-bit. Just make sure you use the newest drivers from M-Audio's website.

:drunk:

I just picked up and M-Audio Delta 1010 used and it works great in Windows 7 64-bit. The drivers are still technically in the beta stages but it's been super stable so far and it's way more powerful than the E-MU 0404 I had prior to buying it.

How about the software?

This thread is very helpful to me... I have a related question:

What about the software that's bundled with these units? For some of them it's a pretty big selling point, they come with a DAW, synths, samples, effects, etc. that could cost quite a lot to purchase separately.

However, I don't know if any of them are compatible with Win 7 x64... they mostly all seem to have come out before Win 7 so the specs don't list it. Anyone have any experience with them?

By the way, a good general Windows compatibility site is this:

Thanks. I'm looking for a usb interface for my home studio and the m-audio MT Ultra appears to be a good option. Has anyone tried to use it on a netbook (win 7, atom 1.66ghz, 1ghz ram)?

Actually the full version drivers have been out for the Delta 1010 since late 2009. It's probably time to update!

Tascam US-122mkII

Just an update on this thread..

I bought a Tascam US-122mkII for my Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

I downloaded the dirvers, updated the firmware, installed a ms hotfix. Nothing worked. I spent hours on this.

And yes I did the compatibility mode.

It will work great when it does in FL Studio, but give it 5 min and you get the screetching and then it just amplifies and amplifies. I thought it was some sort of feedback just to see countless people who have the same problem and how Tascam isn't doing anything about it.

Note to tascam. I will never purchase a Tascam product again. You have a product you know does not work (at all even) on Win 7 64 bit, yet you still put the drivers on your website which implies the the product does something it does not: work on 64 bit Win 7 machines. In technicalities this is illegal to do but eh who's watching.

I'm amazed that any serious company would basically lie about the working of their product and then lie to their customer when asking for support on the product like saying 'get a mac' (actually there's TONS of documented mac problems with the tascam.. tons).

Also the product has huge issues when it comes to output gain. It's simply inexcusable in this day and age. Poorly designed. Actually, if you shake it, it actually rattles.

I do not suggest buying Tascam products as some of the things with this product are inexcusable and the companies morals and pride are lacking.

Yeah, I'd avoid Tascam!

I can't say if any are good, but I can say don't get a Tascam, at least unless they release some updated drivers. I've got the US-144 and it causes all kinds of problems on Windows 7 64bit.

I'll second the recommendation to avoid Tascam. I bought one to replace my M-Audio unit SPECIFICALLY because they claimed (lied) compatibility with Windows 7 64-bit. After many months of head scratching, I finally tracked down the source of my repeated BSODs to their drivers (the latest ones as of 3/14/11, btw). I can deal with incompatibility, I can deal with technical issues, but I just can't abide outright DECEIT. I would never again buy ANYTHING from these people.
