Helly all,
This is an easy one. Is Windows 2000 or NT or ME a bad idea? I have heard that they are shitty for home recording. I couldn't tell that much of a diffrence between 95 and 98 so is there such a diffrence between them??? Thansk guys.

In reguards to the performance of the operating systems, I'll tell you that Windows 95 and 98 are terrible. Crashes, lock ups, blue screens, terrible memory management. Windows 2000 on the other hand is solid, with amazing memory management, pretty flawless performance (I can't believe I used "Windows" and "flawless" in the same sentence.) I've run each of these operating systems. Windows 95 is the worst release of Windows. Buggy, buggy, terrible performance. Win98 is a nice improvement but also adds a ton of useless crap. WinME...well, the rule of thumb is never trust the first release of a new Windows. Win2000? I love it. I use that myself. I've only run into problems with games, rarely/never with software. I play tons of games, play MP3s, etc...basicly I push my computer to the limits. Let's just say that I've kept my computer up running Win2000 for 2 weeks, 3 days on two seperate occassions, with absolutely no problems. The only reason why I shut down was to install new hardware! If I hadn't, I prolly coulda kept my computer running solid for a much longer time. I'm going to make an assumption that Win2K is excellent for recording, as long as both the hardware and software support Win2K, which they should. Just make sure you have 128MB RAM or more (for home recording, do around 256MB), and if you're planning on upgrading to Win2K, DO NOT upgrade to it from your current Windows. Get the full version, and install it freshly to a new directory. DO NOT install over your current Windows. Hope this sheds some light on the matter.
