I plan on purchasing a used Mesa combo, 112 or 212 at the end of August, if I've saved enough by then. I planning on saving somewhere around 1000 dollars CAD.

I've been watching mesas one ebay like a hawk for almost 2 months. ive also been researching different models.

from what ive gathered, i'm thinking i'll probably end up with either a Nomad 45 112 or 212 or a DC-3, 5, 10, etc.

anyone own any of these models? any thoughts? any opinions on which would be better for my style? in my band, which this amp will be mainly used for, i play modern punk rock, a little bit of cleans, usually with chorus and lots of reverb for some ambient stuff.

aside from my band, i am big on versatility. i'm one of those guys who dreams of a 18 channel, do it all in one combo amp. obviously non existant, but thats why im leaning to mesa. i really want a multi channel amp, capable of lots of different sounds. the most important sounds to me are higher gain sounds, but no death metal junk. at the most like a metallica lead. at the other end, i play some ac/dc and chuck berry every once in a while, so pushed cleans to mid range OD is 2nd on the important list. lastly, a decent clean is a must, but not a priority. from what ive heard, im not going to get a mesa with an absolute crap clean channel, so im not to worried.

thanks for your help in advance

checked it out quickly...

could you expand on your suggestion a little? the sound bites on the site sound good for what they are, but none of them are really demonstrating the kind of sound i want. are you suggesting i could get mesa like tones out of it? also, does the clean channel not have a master voume?

Not only am I suggesting that, I am asserting it.:)

I took home a Stiletto Ace combo and returned it, tried a lone star, returned it, and wound up taking home the Supersonic.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, and your tastes are your tastes - but do yourself and your wallet the favor of trying out the supersonic. Just play with it for ten minutes at the store - I think it does quite exactly what you ask.

Thanks alot!

I'll be making the trip ASAP to try it out. I never actually noticed it in a store before, but i'm looking forward to it now. thanks for the tip. can i ask how much you got yours for?

Adam

I got a new head for about a grand. I paid another 400 or so for the 4x12 cab.

I read a review of two new mesa combos in a guitar magazine, they might be the oens you're referring to. I'll have to read up and get back to you.

I bought a Lonestar 1x12 combo because of the sound and the price (GC had last years stock discounted to a grand for the combo.) If I was paying new prices, I would have bought the Supersonic... it is really amazing.

i'll definitely be trying out the supersonic and tell you guys what i think. my real attraction to the dual calibers and nomads was the 2 or 3 channels, each with FULL controls, which i define as a gain, TMB, and volume. individual reverb controls, solo boosts and all that stuff really appeals to me, but is not a must.

so no one with some direct experience with dual cals or nomads? im looking for a variety of tones, so ill list some bands in hopes of painting a better picture of what im looking for.

Foo Fighters, Offspring, 90's Green Day, blink 182, Weezer. some more modern bands that you guys may be more familiar with: sorta like an AFI, fallout boy, jimmy eat world kinda sound. not saying i like any of these newer bands btw, infact i despise afi and fallout boy.

As i said before, the ability to jam some bluesier stuff, along the lines of ac/dc would be a great add on.

as far as high gain goes, every once in a while i like to scoop the mids and crank the gain all the way up, but not seriously for recording or anything.

im asking alot. but i think the mesas or possibly this supersonic could pull it off. am i just wishing of dream amps here?

Adam

PS

dammit. mint DC-3 on the 'bay for 600 buy it now. that wont last. oh well.
