Wind screens

Ultra newbie question....

Is there a difference between a wind screen some distance from the microphone and one of those foam thingies that stick on the business end of the mic?

Wondering, because if I *don't* have to sing holding a warped coat hanger with panty hose stretched over it, I'll stop.

A popscreen will give you better results than a windscreen, so stick with coat hanger and pantyhose.

If you are tired of a cheezy home made one just buy a nice clip on pop screen. They are less than $10.
