Will this time be a charm?

Hello everyone!

I’ve been very interested in everything synthesis and sampled since my piano teacher lent me Wendy Carlos’ Switched On Bach back in the late 70’s.

Getting through college and making a living kept it in the dabbling domain where I’d pick up some equipment, mess with it a while, then decide it was more effort and money than I could accomdate at the time. So, I never got beyond the beginner’s stage.

Now retired and free to dabble to my heart’s content.

Current setup: Mac Mini, Logic Pro, Apogee Duet 3, Roland A-88 keyboard.

I decided the pianos in Logic Pro (Concert Grand and Steinway) were insipid so began looking for piano samples. Found Synthology and Vienna Symphonic Library. Now I have my very own Concert D and Bosendorfer Imperial. And didn’t have to add on to the house or go into ruinous debt to have them.

This decade’s iteration of musical technology is truly amazing.

We’ll see what kind of trouble I can get into. Otherwise, I perform mandolin family instruments in a community band.

Yeah you're golden...and you're right the virtual pianos these days are awesome and don't need to be tuned or take up a ton of room. I still love playing a real piano but I just don't see me owning one in these sunset years unless I hit the lotto. I am pretty happy witht he piano sounds I can get in my MODX and the ones I can upload.

I am transitioning from an old iMac and Reaper to a Mac mini M4 and Logic pro soon..(finishing a home studio set up right now) kind of disappointed to hear the piano sounds are lacking but I have the MODX and there are a ton of killer Piano vst's these days.

72 here in LA and playing in a Country Rock band that gets some really nice gigs on occasion. Not too many and we practice once a month so it's pretty casual.

Looking forward to recording a ton of my originals this upcoming year...Time will tell.

My current favourite is Kontakt Noire, or the dutch pianoteq system - I have loads, but those two feature more often in my music.

Welcome to the mad house Tulip. You don't say what you monitor on? Lot of newcomers don't. My view is "if you can't HEAR it properly you can't fix it"
Pianos? Check out Modartt Pianoteq.

Sensheimer HD 490 Pro headphones
KRK Systems Kreate 5” studio speakers

My music room is small as is my home, so I only listen via speakers on the odd occasion I have the house to myself.
