Guys, Id like to get into computer recording and need some advice. I am planing on starting with the Wharfdale active monitors from Deepwater. I will also need a soundcard. Will the M-Audio Delta 410 PCI card work for me? I can get one for $100 so is this a good price and will it serve me well? I plan to record my guitars and some MIDI stuff using Reaktor 4. The only computer recording I have done so far has been at school where everything was already set up.
What else do I need, and how would I set it up?
Any recomendations and advice will be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Kamen

Hope this helps

Its been awhile since you posted, but I figured every post should get some kind of an answer... If you're just starting you have your computer... probably a crappy soundcard and you want a reasonable recording work on the signal in... You should probably think about a soundcard and headphones before a more professional monitoring system... Headphones at even twenty dollars should serve you good and allow you to think more about the recording process which is the most important thing that you should worry about at this point...

Email if you want or need to

brett,
thanks for responding. I just ordered the M-Audio Delta 410 card from Newegg.com for $78. Basically I bought it because it was cheap and it got good reviews. Along with a smalll Behringer mixer, a condenser mic, Kristal, and the Wharfedale 8.2 actives, what else do I need to make basic guitar recordings?

I also have a Roland VGA-5 amp that has a MIDI input in the back. Anyone have a clue on how this amp can be used for computer recording aside from the traditonal way? Do I need a MIDI interface?
THanks for any help.

Nice setup

Sounds like you're a little farther into this buisness than it sounded...Seems to me like you'll have a pretty nice setup... Don't know too much in the way of mics, but I do know that most people like to use two mics to record guitar amps the traditional way... I've heard a condesor and a dynamic, but I'm not sure of the setup... Just be careful if you go for a dynamic that you don't get one that is optimized for vocal applications as they boost certain parts of the signal and reduce others, etc...

Sorry, I've got the same question as you do on the midi jack on my guitar amp... Although, mine has a switch that changes it from regular midi to the optional footpedal for my amp... If we could get someone in here that could give us some advice on this, I would be quite pleased... I don't know how else to help you there...

Good luck on your recordings and enjoy your setup as it sounds like a great beginner setup... Sounds like you've done some recordings before, but I wanted to say that doing them will take your music to another level... A few recordings down the road you'll be able to look back and see how you've progrressed!! Its great! Have a good one!

I don't see the Delta 410 on the m-audio site. Is it discontinued? I see them for sale on the web. I just bought their AP2496 and am completely amazed at the difference it makes from my old sound blaster live card.

I too am curious as to what purpose the MIDI jacks on amps and effects serve. More specifically I wonder how the signals interact with the hardware because I assume the MIDI is used as a controller line that allows automation/control of parameters in the unit.
