My neighbors complained about me banging my kit pedal too hard on my electric kit (lol) so im debating weather or not to move them into my garage, which can be cold.

Will this damage the circuitry/wires on my electric drum kit, with it being kind of cold out there?

Any feedback will be valued. Thank you,
Mark.:(

Nice play on words there although I bet that was an unconscious association !
I'd be surprized if the cold prevented the kit from working properly unless you're in Russia or Poland or something.......
How cold is it ?

lol, pun wasn't intended.
I live in Ireland. If you're from America, the weather would be "Seattle-like".
No snow, no sun..... thats why i got the kit, to keep me alive... lol.
Seriously though, it wouldn't corrode or be less responsive do you think?

Edit : I see you're from London. Pretty much the same weather conditions.

Where I live there's lots of humidity and rust, so I'm pretty paranoid about that. What kills gear is heating up and cooling down repeatedly - it condenses moisture inside the gear and that can corrode and cause electrical shorts.

I don't think the cold will do much but I'd look for corrosion in any areas I'd put my drum gear. Look around and see if screws or metal parts are rusting... any signs like that.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot and see whats going on. You are right about temperature raising etc. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Have you tried padding your kick pad? I was in a similar situation a couple years back and just wrapped a towel around the pad. You might want to give it a go before moving it outside.

Thats an idea actually. I'll try that out. :)

Hopefully.

:D

(EDIT: Sorry, just a little joke about electronic drums. Not wishing any actual damage to your "kit")

When you have a Fender bass guitar at $2000, and Ibanez bass at $800, buying a "kit" like this was my only option, economically. Dont go hatin the midi kits!!;)

Holy shit. Is there really a difference in the sound?

Its actually unbelievable, the difference.
I made a mistake, i live in the UK, and it cost £2000, so more like $3500 in comparison :/

If you listen to Marcus Miller (bassist) its pretty much the bass he uses, the exact same sound. So pingy and clear =D A very sexeh sound!

People that pay that much for bass will tell you it's worth it. The rest of us in the real world will tell you there's no difference in sound. It's just a bass.

If you're into recording audio, I'm frankly surprised you can't tell the difference between the sound of a $100 bass and a $2000 bass.
The Beatles had bass with no clarity in the 60s/70's, but these days, you can hear the it, not just feel it.

Edit : Maybe i got you all wrong there, if so, i apologize. In laymens terms, its not just a hum to fill in the gap, its tone.

I get it, but if the player, pickups, amp, signal chain, and mix didn't play such important roles in how a bass sounds recorded and live, I might buy your "a 2000 dollar bass is just better" claims.

Yeh i see what you mean, its down to that also. But when i watch this video, this lets you hear what an expensive bass sounds like.
Had he of played this on a $100 bass, no matter how much you EQ it or whatever, you cant polish a turd, it will still be and sound like a turd.

You cant just say "Bass is just bass" lol

I once heard this story about Jeff Beck.
He was waiting to go on stage and had an hour or something to kill. Hanging about backstage was this cheapo crappo guitar and an equally shitty amp. Well, to kill a bit of time, Beck picked up the shitty guitar and apparently coaxed the most unbelievably beautiful sounds out of it. Then he went on stage and played a blinder. But the teller of the story couldn't believe that a 'shit' guitar could sound so hot and came to the conclusion that however limiting an instrument may be, if it is in working order, a decent player can play it.

I saw this documentary once about women taking revenge on their cheating husbands/boyfriends/partners. There was one woman who, when her husband traded her in for a younger model, pretended she was OK with it and invited him around for an amicable meal. And she cooked dogshit pie. And she says he ate it and didn't know anything was amiss. So it would appear that you probably can polish a turd......
