I am still in college. I am a Telecommunications major at University of Georgia. We use Final Cut Pro a LOT for editing. And we use several other Apple based technologies. Now, I have been advised to get an Apple computer of some kind, so that I can not have to work until 4:00 a.m. in some shit hole College lab. But can work at home. Now, I need a laptop for many other things as well. But I would like to have some of the streamlined qualities of the G5. Now I know that there will "never" (at least not anytime soon) a laptop with dual 2.5gHz G5 processors. That would be as hot as a space heater, as loud as a jet, and as thick as a suitcase.

But they did just come out with an iMac G5. How long do you think it will be before they update their PowerBook line to G5 CPUs?

I believe it was last week, some Apple exec said "No G5 Powerbooks anytime soon," which is what they've been saying for a while.

From what I understand (coming from folks who work at Apple, but not in the hardware department) the G5 chip runs WAY too hot to put in a cramped notebook form. The story I heard is that the test unit melted the board inside of 10 minutes... that's hearsay, though.

So, I wouldn't hold your breath.
