Can someone tell if Cakewalk (or any other software MIDI sequencer's) Instrument Definitions from various manufacturers & their devices will play on the JV-1010? I hooked up a Korg 01/W (MIDI Out) to my computer (MIDI In), imported the Korg 01/W Instrument Definitions Bank into my project; & played. My Sound Module (Roland JV-1010) played it's own version of the Korg sounds. I tried Sysx dumps...I tried everything (I think.) Is there something I am missing, or should I be asking the question: If Instrument Definitions from one manufaturer won't play on a sound module from another manufacturer, what's the freakin' point? What exactly is their purpose? Thanks.

Every manufacturer and even every model has its own instrument defenitions. The point is simply that you should be able to save your own pathes or to transfer them to someone that has exactly the same model. Some models has however support for other models. I think the JV1010 can use patches from some other Roland model, but I'm not sure...

The point of a synth module? Simply a synth without a keyboard...

Boray,

Thanks. Sorta' figured that out from the Cake manual last night, after I posted. I guess if I want Korg sounds, I'll have to spring for the module.

The booklet that comes with the 1010 indicates it's compatibility with other Ro modules such as the XP30's and most '80 mods.

once you got your midi device to talk to your JV1010, did you or do you like the JV1010?

I'm curious, because I have a chance to aquire one for 100 bucks. I assume that's a good price.

Anyway, I haven't played around with the JV1010 much. Am mostly curious as to the quality of the drum patches.

I also picked up an old old Tascam 8track reel to reel for 300 bucks. It sounds fine to me, and it's Idiot proof.

speaking of Idiot proof, how user friendly is the JV1010?

Thanks for any feedback!!
