Hoi Hoi everyone. I'm going to pick up the new E-Mu 1820 in about a week or so, but my computer has these wicked loud fans in it. Firstly, with this shred with my quality of sound, assuming that the computer is anywhere near the mics...and secondly, will the intense fanage have any effect on the soundcard at all? I don't want some Nasty Hiss or Hum or Bzzz in the recordings! Let me Know.

Glen!

I don't know if the fans will affect the sound card, but you will definately hear them in your recordings - especially if you are using condenser mics. The most common solutions presented for computer noise are either moving the computer out of your recording space via cable extenders or putting computer in a soundproof enclosure (or getting a quieter computer).

Sound Proof!?

what kind of enclosure = soundproof, could I put it in my closet?

i don't know jack about recording, but i went into a custom computer shop the other day and they sell silent fans...they're a little more expensive but probably worth looking into

i put my pc in the adjacent closet of my old house and the room was noise free.

i drilled a hole in the wall of my closet and ran the wires (extended wired) through the hole into the adjacent closet, then put the PC there.

because I had disabled power management on the PC, i had to go to the other room and open the closet to turn the PC on and off, but that's no big deal.
