wierd DVD drive problem...

whenever i insert a cd into the drive, it gives the following error...



"windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatable with windows"

what is going on? all connections are secure...
 
it does this when any disk i insert, be it data, audio, DVD... whatever
 
I had this same thing happen and the only option is to replace the CD drive.
 
Ditto. If it fails on CDRs and CDs AND Audio CDs, I'd have to conclude the drive is bad.
 
damn that sucks... damn money, never around when you need it! thanks for the help guys...

as a last resort... think the lense could be dirty>?

I think the lens might be dirty: it's certainly worth cleaning it before you spring out on a new dvd drive!!

Those lens cleaner discs don't cost more'n a few quid.
