Why such huge files? - Cubase SE

Greetings. I am having a problem exporting files. I am a Cubase SE newbie and barely can get around, but I was able to record three audio files I want to place on a CD. The files, of course, were recorded as .cpr files, and I wanted to export them to my hard drive as .wav or as .mp3 files so I could place them on a CD. The files were only about three minutes each, about 10 mins of total audio. But when I exported them, they came out at more than 2 gigs apiece, and showed up as being 400-plus minutes in length and were way, way, way too big to place on a CD. Even when I converted them to MP3 they came out at 355,000 kb......There is definitely a problem. Why would they come out so huge? Later I put down another test track, this time just one minute, and exported it the same way.....and it came out fine - registered as being a minute long on the CD burner......what should I do? What did I do wrong the first time? How can I make the original files fit on a CD?

Thanks guys.

You may have been making "automatic" saves and somehow (I don't know how) recorded all the saved copies. Also, before exporting you may want to go to the audio pool and "remove unused media". Also in the export function (I'm working from memory here since my version of Cubase is on another machine) it gives you the option to export as single files or "interleaved". Although exporting separate files shouldn't make the song 2 gigs big my guess is that you accidently exported much more than the song.

Check your project length and your left and right selection arrows. If you didn't adjust your project length in project setup, I believe the default is very long.

If your selection arrows are set up from the start to the end of the project, as opposed to the start and end of the music, you could end up with some really long files...basically your three minutes of music plus close to an hour of silence. If this is the case, simply adjust your arrows to the start and end of the music and the audio mixdown will only contain what is inbetween the arrows.

Thanks. I will struggle my way through finding out how to do this and post to let you know how it came out.
