Why some use Cool Edit and Sonar?

I have Sonar 2.0 XL and I have Cool Edit Pro 2.0. I occasionally see threads on here about people using both, something about cool edit as a wave editor. If Sonar is powerful, why use the lesser Cool Edit?

I wouldn't call Cool Edit "lesser"....just different.

I personally use Sonar as my main multitracking environment, and perform individual track mixing there.

Cool Edit has great tools (as does Sound Forge) for overall mixing and "Mastering" of the resultant stereo tracks that I export from Sonar. It is also a great tool for performing wave editing on individual tracks. Cool Edit has, for example, a great tool for reducing / removing 60 cycle hum and hiss from recorded tracks. You can then bring the track back into Sonar for mixing.

 :D :( :) :p ;)

I use both. I use Sonar to record and edit MIDI and Cool Edit for all audio recording. I find Cool Edit MUCH easier to use and would probably not use Sonar at all if Cool Edit had MIDI record and edit.
One other thing, besides being (for me) harder to use, about Sonar that stops me from using it for general audio recording is that it doesn't paint the wave as it's recording. I find this quirk very disconcerting.

Second to Holy BibleMan. Its easier to edit audio in cool edit pro. Even thought cakewalk or sonar lets you edit the audio track within, but using dedicated wave editor is alot more simple, easy, accurate, and fast. And they usualy come with plenty of cool features sonar doesn't have. And as Mr James Argo said, I also found cool edit pro has better noise reduction functions. :)

Stupid question perhaps, but what kind of thing would make a '60 cycle hum'? :)

Can't stop wondering...

...Ground Loop. Bad electric (AC) routing often causing this harmonic noise. ;)

I compare it to Adobe Photoshop, I use it at work. It's a great program but have you ever tried to draw a simple circle in Photoshop? It's not as simple as you want... special tasks need special programs. :)
