i'm trying to get a real good processor. i need help because i dont know TOO MUCH about processors but from what i heard, i heard that 3.6Ghz processors were real expensive but i found one for only $195. here's the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...SubCategory=343

the processor is called Intel Pentium 4 661 Cedar Mill 800MHz FSB LGA 775 EM64T Processor Model BX80552661

it should be at the bottom of the screen (the last one on the list)

so can somebody look at the description of the processor and tell me why it's so cheap and clue me in on what i should be lookin for in a processor (the good attributes).

but if yall think that that's a good deal for that 3.6ghz processor also let me know that too THANKS

Intel recently dropped it's prices on it's single core processors, so did AMD. You should get a dual core pentium D instead of a 3.6ghz single core. A 3.4ghz dual core would be faster then the single core... dual core 3.2ghz start at $186 @ newegg... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...50716915+105101317&Submit=ENE&Subcategory=343

I would spend the extra $30 dollars & get the 3.4ghz dual core instead of the 3.6ghz single core. It's basically having 2 processors running at 3.4ghz w/ it's own dedicated 2mb L2 cache. Multi-tasking would be very fast. I myself, got the 3.0ghz dual core & it runs very quick. Mine's the Pentium D 930 on LGA775. which is one of the best priced dual core processors on the market, plus very overclockable if thats your thing...

Oh btw, the link didn't work but I went onto newegg & found what processor your talking about. The thing different is the processor itself, it's a pentium 4, not pentium D also.

I got a dual-core as a gift a few months ago. You might want to wait a few months on the AMD's. I don't know if they've introduced any new lines in the past month or two, but the FX and X2 lines are going to be the last in Socket 939. So if your going to pay top dollar for a X2-4800+ or the FX-7(?) and a motherboard, you won't be able to upgrade in a few months or years.

So i'm guess that pentium d is better than pentium 4? what's the best pentium out there? thanks

The new conroe's will be really fast, they were benchmarked & they beat the top of the line amd FX's. But Pentium D's are the newer pentium line that feature 2 cores.Anyways the best pentium out there currently on the market is the Pentium EE at 1066mhz fsb, dual core 2mb x 2 cache clocked at 3.73ghz ($1,048.99 @ newegg). I used to be only an AMD fan, but I wanted a dual core set up and AMD's ones are expensive. If I was you & are able to spend enough to get the AMD dual core 4200's or 4800's X2's then I would.

Intel changed how they make their processor. They used to release processors that were based on higher clock speeds. Now they concentrate on how much work can be done per clock cycle. AMD's were doing that already & mac's beat both in work per clock cycle for a long while, not that long ago.

The pentium D 3.0ghz 2 x 2mb cache out performs the pentium 4 3.6ghz & the 3.8ghz on benchmarks btw so yeah the pentium D's are better & faster, and basically the same price or cheaper then the pentium 4

The AMD X2's are available on the AM2 socket now instead of only the 939 socket

If you are into overclocking then the Pentium D 820 is an awesome deal as I have read articles stateing that it can be clocked up to 4.2ghz without haveing to change Cooling which is a Major overclock....

I have been useing the Same CPU in my PC since 2001 but it stands up in performance to some newer CPU"s..It is a 2.6ghz Northwood Overclocked to 3.2ghz with 1gb of Dual channel DDR 400 so for a 5 year old PC it is still pretty fast......

Cheers

I think the Pentuim D 805 is probably the one you're talking about. It costs stuff-all and can be clocked insanely. However it's not as heat efficient as the newer 65nm chips as it's built on the older 90nm
