Anybody know? The MPC2000 seems to have more features, and the MPC2000XL even more, but the MPC3000 still is like three times as expensive!!! It's very strange...
The MPC 3000 basically comes with all the features built in whereas with the 2000 and 2000 XL, you would have to buy the best features as upgrades. And in my experience you can hardly do anything on it without the extra options. Hence the 3000 would naturally be more expensive.
Nope, that's not it. The MPC3000 is more expensive than an MPC2000XL even with all the options. I checked all those things, and as far as I can see, the MPC2000XL has more features AND are cheaper than the MPC3000. I still don't know why.
You should also know that the MPC 3000 is a Roger Linn design and made to his quality specs, whereas the 2000 and 2000 XL are not Roger Linn machines so Akai was able to make them with less expensive materials.
While I do not want to incite a war like the ones I have seen on other lists involving the 2000 vs. 3000 debate, I will say that from my own personal experience I think the 3000 is a WAY better machine. I have never had mine crash on me, while I have heard and seen many stories of the 2000's OS being pretty shaky. I also think that the DAC's on the 3000 are much better. Things just don't the same on a 2000 as they do on a 3000 or 60. And the 3000 is just a better made machine - built like a f***king tank. There seems to be a logical reason as to why, after 5 or 6 years, the 3000s have managed to retain their value and 2000s seem to be popping up quite frequently in the classifieds. The statistics on paper can be a little misleading - many of the sampling features that were added on the 2000 are not really worth using (like its timestretch). I debated this myself for quite a while, and I am glad i made the choice I did. hope this helps a little bit...
