I was recording today and i could not get my guitar to stop "cracking" the monitors. the monitors were not turned up loud and the recorder's levels showed no peaking. I was also running the guitar though a compresser/limiter to help the distorting and cracking but it still did the samething. The guitar sound that i'm getting sounds killer, but it's not loud enough because i have to turn it down to stop the cracking.

thanks for your help.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere in the recording chain. Check your cables and connectors.

I don't think that it's that. (but i checked anyway and did not find anything.)

I'm really pissed! I can seem to find how it's doing it! I don't do it on any other things. Just distortion guitar. the guitar itself is not distorting it's something in the rack or the recorder i think. I don't think that my monitors are busted because they play other things
and cds fine. This problem started when i hooked up all my new rack gear. I know that the rack gear myte be the problem, but it should not. i will e-mail the brand makers. I tryed just pluging my guitar (with the pod and/or my floor boord) into the input on my recorder. the craking was gone but the track was not loud enough and when i boosted the gain, it would distort.

can anyone help me one this?

1 by 1 , take things out of the chain until you find the culprit......

Harvey's right, sounds very much like bad cable or a bad connection.........

i know you're in good hands with these guys, but i had a similar problem, and the guitar was simply recorded to hot. there was some digital clipping that drove me crazy until i re-recorded the guitar.
did you record any other tracks in this project? is it only the guitar that's cracking?
