Why is my computer restarting when I try to open Sonar4?

I've been using my delta 1010lt and a delta audiophile for together for a couple years now. I went to hook up a couple mics into the audiophile with the computer on(by accident) and the computer restarted. Now I have to hold down the shift key and click on Sonar to open, but not everytime. I didn't lose any songs or audio I previously recorded. I reinstalled both drivers but have the same problem. I have an Asus P4C800DX motherboard.
My questions are, has anybody else had this problem? Also, whats going on with having to hold the shift key while I open Sonar...what does the shift key do?
One more thing, I am about to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB but wanted to find out some info on my problem before I did so.

have a go at changing both card's location on the PCI bus..(find a spare 2 unused slots and re-insert cards into those).....um...shut the machine down prior to pci relocation!!...lol!;).....just try that first?...nothing to lose!

I can't imagine a hardware issue causing you to need to hold shift to click on and open any program, though we are discussing PCs and anything is possible. Since you are obviously having some sort of conflict, somewhere. I'd suggest backing up everything you want to keep and doing a total wipe/reinstall and start from scratch. Sometimes it's just easier than troubleshooting heh.

Superspit, I'll switch the soundcards before I do it
took my board in(mackie) to be fixed, I'll post again next week or 2.
