Hi guys,

Been trying to record some old cassettes onto cd for my dad, by recording them via my old cassette player with soundforge on my pc.

the problem is I am only getting sound through one speaker when it arrvies in soundforge. I am wiring out of my hifi, through a jack to jack cable, with an adaptor at the pc end to make it a small jack, into my soundcards line in socket. is this cos my soundcard (which is the standard card that came with my pc) is just not equipped to record stereo or is it the leads or what? if you could help id be vary grateful, I need to get this sorted for my dad as a birthday present. Thanks very much in advance,
Matty

I can't say for sure, but you might want to check your recording settings within the program. Usually, if you are doing any home recording (vocals, guitar, etc.) you are recording in mono. If your program is currently set up for mono, you might be recording only 1 channel. ie. you may only be recording into the left channel. You might have to switch within the program to record in stereo.

Does the 1/8 connector that you are plugging into your computer have 1 or 2 black lines. If it has only one, you need a new adapter. If it has 2, you need to make sure you are plugging into the line in and not the mic input.

I'm with Farview here, sounds like your adapter might be mono rather than stereo.

Also, you speak of just a single cable. "Usually" stereo will need two cables. Of course, since there is only a single input connection on your sound card, you will need a "Y" connector to take the two cables down to a single (stereo) plug.
