Why doesn't my PC see my Delta 66 anymore?!?!

I've been using an m-audio Omni Studio bundle (Omni breakout box with a Delta 66 card) for about 6 months and have been very happy with the set up. That is, until the other night.

For some reason the Delta is no longer visible. SONAR doesn't see it, the basic Windows Volume Control Panel doesn't see it. They both see the original SoundBlaster and can control it just fine.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver I was using (rev 29 from late December 2003) and that didn't help. Nor did the latest driver, rev 36.

I tried reseating the card but that didn't help either. Even tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver after that, but that didn't help. The last thing I did was try teh Delta in another slot, but had the same lack of results.

I then checked to see if maybe it was virus related or spyware related. However I have Norton AntiVirus check daily for updates and I also run an antivirus scan on a daily basis. In the three years I've had the PC, NAV has never detected a virus. I also run AdAware daily and look for updates once a week. I do the same with Spybot S&D. Spybot hasn't detected anything at all in quite a while (I do keep immunization turned on) and AdAware only finds a few tracking cokies here and there, and I always delete them. So it doesn't seem to be spyware/virus related, at least not based on what I know to look for.

I'm not aware of any other problem on the PC, either hardware or software. I can't imagine how the card would just all of a sudden stop working but that's what looks like happened.

So....... any thoughts?

EDIT - Hey!!!! This was my 500th post! I'm now a Force of Nature, something my wife has been calling me for the last 20+ years...

Have you tried going back to a previous Restore point?

I don't recall installing or uninstalling any software recently. Certainly can't hurt to try it at this point, though.

Hi, sir..

I know you might not be in the mood to answer this question.. but I'm just like you.. I got the delta66 and omni i/o studio box... same package as yours? anyways... I was just wondering.. how well does the "installed" preamps work? I tried recording my vocals, but its not aligned with the instrumental in the background.. any advice ? hard to find people that will give me advice.. at least from someone who owns one

Hi there,

I'm also have the Omni Studio/Delta 66 bundle and it worked fine until I installed SB Audigy 2 ... does anyone know if those two are compatible at all? It finds a Multimedia Audio Controller, but when I point it to the drivers (also Rev 36) it finds nothing...

DaveO, are you sure you did nothing to your system settings at all? Maybe installed/uninstalled some hardware, BIOS tweaking, anything? In the manual, they say something about static being dangerous to audio hardware, not sure if this is the case...

Also, as for spyware, try SpySweeper (www.spysweeper.com), for me it founds A LOT of spyware that AdAware missed...

To answer your question jayphon, I am pretty pleased with the preamps. My only other experience with preamps is with an Art Tube MP and Dual MP and I find the Delta's much quieter. That doesn't mean I hate the ARTs, not completely anyway. Plus they make a really nice bass DI box.

Hobbit, no, no changes recently. And definitely none in between the time I last used it and the time it appeared to fail. I was recording one night and had no problems. I went back to that project the next night and as far as the PC was concerned the Delta no longer exists. I can re-install the driver but I keep getting told there is NO Delta hardware on my PC.

I also tried Spysweeper and it only found one thing that AdAware didn't. But then again I've always found Spybot S&D picked up what AdAware missed, and vice versa. Still, no change after doing a scan with Spysweeper.

Next stop, M-audio's web site ...

Have you tried going into the Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia/ and checking to see if your preferred device is the correct one?

Just going out on a limb here.

Yep, doesn't even show up. Windows and the M-Audio software deny all existence of the card.
