I am currently recording some solo work with my Morley Bad Horsie II Wah. I have the head in the control room at sitting on top of a combo amp beside me. It is at about crotch level. When I'm not playing and I press the wah all the way down, I get a high pitch scream coming from the speakers. This doesn't get picked up in the DI that I have going with it.

It seems to also be affecting the sweep of my wah. Almost like it sweeps too quick. It doesn't do this when I play at practice with my band and the head is on top of my cab.

are you sure? like, you took it home and tried to replicate?

otherwise, i was going to suggest that maybe it got dropped or something. not sure if you have ever opened it up, but the "pot" is actually an LED and a photoresistor (the "electro-optical" part in their advert). the sweep of the pedal can be adjusted by slightly bending either or both the photoresistor and LED to strengthen or weaken the amount of light allowed to pass for a given point in pedal travel. confusing? it will be pretty obvious when you open it up.

the point is, if the wah is opening up too far, you can try to adjust it. also, how close are the amp and guitar when it squeals? i can easily replicate that squeal if i get too close to my laney head with a humbucker, and that can be greatly exacerbated by sweeping the wah forward (a cheap crybaby).

then again, something might be in pcb heaven.

i adjusted and modded my morley pedal over and over, but it was never "just right". got rid of it, and bought a dunlop crybaby. now *that* was an improvement  .

Pretty certain. Perhaps I just "hear" it different because I'm listening to what a mic is telling me rather than hearing it in a room.

Yeah, I know about adjusting the sweep by opening it up. I was thinking that a good old crybaby would fix the issue.

I can stand across the room and it still does it. However, after I posted this, I turned down the resonance (whatever the f*ck that means) and the presence on the head and it seemed to help. I also turned down the master volume. That helped as well.

dont be so sure..... didnt you see my eye-rolling smiley at the end?

IMO, the crybaby i ended up with is an impossible POS. if you do get one, i recommend staying away from the hot-potz, even if you need to replace one. i am going to try one of the more extensive mods (true bypass, fasal inductor, etc) once i find the spare cabbage to blow on something i currently almost cant stand. but you cant score porno without it!
