Why does it sound so much better in the sequencer?

Slowing becoming un-noob.
So when mixing on my daw in Cubase I get my songs to sound powerful and fantastic. And when I export it and listen to it in .wav format on iTunes it just doesn't have that extra oompf. If that makes any sense.
It's not because of the volume level either, I've cranked it in iTunes and it still doesn't get the bigger sound that I had in the sequencer.

Is it because iTunes compresses the songs even more or something? What is the deal?

Thanks!

Elliot

Are you exporting 44.1khz and 16 bit WAV? its better than mp3 and will burn onto discs and still be WAV
again, try it.

Yeah, 44.1khz 16bit.
That's what I've been exporting at.

My buddy who also does homerecording has experienced the same type of deal but instead of Cubase to iTunes, he uses Protools and Windows Media Player. So I'm not sure what the deal is. I wish I could figure it out.

Just for the hell of it mix and export a tune at -6db. Then import it to wavelab, add 6db of gain and export it again and see what happens. Any different? If none then try tracking your song at about -18db and try again.

1. Make sure your Windows Mixer levels are all set equally.

B. Make sure that in both iTunes and WiMP that you have all equalizers, loudness boosts, stereo wideners, etc. turned off/bypassed/etc.

Three. Make sure that you have Cubase rendering all real-time effects when it creates the WAV, and not just rendering the base tracks.

IV. Make sure you're not comparing the volume of your mix to one ripped from a commercial CD.

How do I make sure all those things are turned off? Are they off when the program is installed? Because I know I didn't turn them on.

Cubase rendering all real-time effects?
How do I make sure that I have cubase doing all that?
I'm not comparing it to any other song. I'm comparing the song in iTunes with the same song in Cubase. In cubase it sounds a Lot better.

Doh, sorry about the stutter. Thanks for the head's up and the point(er)s :).

Good thing it was just as stutter and not Tourette's, I guess... ;)
