Hi! i've been using cubase artist 6 for about a month now, and I was wondering where all my HD space was going to. Turns out cubase saves EVERY track onto my hard drive, even the ones I delete when its a bad take or whatever. It's eating space fast. Any way to stop this? I just want to save the good tracks.

You could create a macro key command, which is a bit complicated if you're a beginner, or you can follow the...er...following:

1. Open the audio pool by pressing Ctrl-P (Mac: Cmd-P)
2. Right click anywhere in the pool and select "Remove Unused Media"
3. Right click anywhere in the pool again and select "Empty Trash"
4. Select "Erase" when prompted.

This will delete any files not used in the project window.

To answer your question, Cubase saves everything because it's logical to do so. Sometimes a good take is thirty takes ago thus requiring a wade through the audio pool. The audio pool is actually one of the crucial features of Cubase and learning how to use it effectively is just as crucial.

Read the manual dude. It'll help you understand all these "why's".

Cheers :)

MoFacta:

Only full versions of cubase supports macros.

But yeah the short version is to just go into the pool and erase everything in the trash.

Awesome, thank you guys very much. I just cleared 8 gigs of unused tracks from my computer!

Thanks for the thread/replies. I wasn't even aware of this... :spank: Bad Guitaristic!!

I will be sure to clean out my crap soon too!

Before you erase things out of the pool, make sure that you have a separate session folder for each song.

If you don't, you will erase all the audio for every song other than the one you have open.

All of this can be found in the manual. There are thousands of other nifty little things that can save time and heartache that can be found in the manual. In fact, any time you are doing something and the thought "there has to be an easier way to do this" comes into your head, check the manual, there probably is.
