I have just got a new golden age preamp 73.

My chain is: Mic ->preamp -> fast track pro -> computer

I have a rode nt1-a condensor going into the preamp input, i am using a balanced cable to connect the preamp to the fast track pro (XLR plugs into the preamp output and the TRS plugs into the front input on the soundcard) I have the gain on the fast track pro's preamp turned all the way down.

When i open up an audio track (in logic), the second that i hit record or switch on input monitoring i can hear this constant whoosing/hissing "whitenoise" like sound. The lower i put the fader, the quieter this sound gets, the higher the fader is the louder this noise is.

What is causing this noise?

Turn the PAD on in the Fast Track Pro, see if it helps.
I'm interested in that Golden Age Preamp. Let me know how it works out.
Also, make sure the phantom power is turned off on the Fast Track Pro.
