I am looking at a used Wave/496 as an interim solution to a transition from SB Live! to a LynxOne (meaning; I cant afford the Lynx), but there seem to be certain difficulties associated with the Wave/496 and the company went out of business soon after releasing it. Why?

According to Gadget Labs,
They just flat did not have enough buisness to keep afloat.
It is a shame. I have had a 4 in 16 bit card of theirs and I still have the 8/24 pro. They were equally stellar in their day, But eventually will go to the Great Studio Heap in the Sky some day.

I think the GL cards used the same converters as the Lynx, dont quote me on that yet......

very good card, every bit as good as Deltas and maybe a tad better......

driver support seems to be continuing by independent sources, but I have no idea what they do if service is needed.....

It's all academic, now. I was just informed that the card I was interested has been sold. Guess I'll have to wait til I can afford the LynxOne. Thanks for your help, just the same.

Buying a gadgetlabs card is a huge mistake at this point. Unless you have the money laying around and have time to kill tinkering around trying to make things work, it's not a very wise purchase.

That's not to say they didn't make some fine cards though.

Ditto. I have a Wave 824 card and have been very, very happy with it. I definately got my moneys worth out of it for the last few years.

But since they went under driver support has died, which means I am locked into Windows 9X. And I want to move on to XP. And I'm skeptical of any third party ever writing a working XP driver for it.

So I'll probably be buying a C-Port soon to replace it, and selling the 824 cheap on ebay.
