Why cant i change my desktop background???

running windows xp pro here

and when i try to change my background i can't... I've right clicked on the desktop properties>desktop and all of the choices are greyed out .. so i cant click them

I've also just went to an image right clicked it and "set as desktop" but nothing happens .. any ideas? I'm just curious as to why this happened?

im just guessing, but you may have to be signed is with administrative powers on your puter.

no i am .. its my computer no ones else uses it, there is no other accounts

ive ran all my virus software/adware/spyware none of them pick anything up
